ST. GEORGE, Utah – The popular Dixie State College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of DSC Music Department Chair Glenn Webb, presents its annual holiday concert on Tuesday December 7, at 7:30 p.m., at the DSC Dolores Dore’ Eccles Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theater.
The concert will feature a mix of holiday classics done in a jazz setting with some exciting jazz compositions, beginning with Count Basie’s version of Jingle Bells. In addition, the ensemble will perform the United States Air Force Airmen of Note arrangement of We Three Kings of Orient Are, and Grammy winner Gordon Goodwin’s version of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.
DSC music faculty member Dr. Shannon Roberts will also lead the ensemble in performing his original arrangement of Ira’s Blues. This arrangement debuted earlier this year at the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival.
The Dixie State College Guitar Ensemble will also perform on the concert. The Guitar Ensemble consists of guitars exclusively and has a rich, vibrant sound. The group is lead by DSC music adjunct faculty member and well-known southern Utah performer Lisle Crowley.
General admission tickets will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $1 for DSC students and faculty and staff with current ID. Patrons may also purchase tickets online at “tickets.dixie.edu.” For tickets and further information, please call 435-652-7800 or visit the central campus ticket office at the DSC Avenna Center.
