'Dixie's Got Talent' holding auditions

ST. GEORGE – Performers young and old are invited to audition for Dixie’s Got Talent, a Region-wide musical celebration commemorating Southern Utah’s annual Heritage Weekhighlighting the talents of Washington County residents, and Dixie State College students and alumni.  Sponsored by the Southern Utah Heritage Choir, this event will be held Jan. 18 and 19 in the Dixie State College Cox Auditorium.
 
Audition will be held Saturday, November 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Eccles Concert Hall, 100 South 700 East.
 
Vocalists, small groups and bands (not more than ten members, private, not affiliated with schools) instrumentalists and all musicians are encouraged to audition. Separate classifications include: Children, (up to 14) Young Adults, (15-25) and Adult/Senior, (26 and up) categories.
 
Musicians may perform acappella, with an accompaniment CD, their own musical accompaniment or provide a pianist to accompany them. While all musical genres are acceptable, special consideration will be given to selections that thematically celebrate the Dixie Heritage, either original or previously published.

 In addition to awards, major gifts from sponsors will be presented to winners selected by a distinguished panel of judges and audience choice. This event will be open to the public with live television and radio coverage.  All proceeds will be used to fund Dixie State College scholarships for the cultural arts.
 
Six finalists will be selected at the end of the first night’s performance.  The finale night of Dixie’s Got Talent,will also feature professional musical celebrities who had their beginnings in Southern Utah and have fanned out across our entire country. In future years, Southern Utah Heritage Choir will feature dance, visual and literary arts.
