Inaugural mid-singles conference to be held in St. George this weekend

ST. GEORGE – From live entertainment to workshops and speakers, this weekend’s mid-singles conference plans to have a little bit of everything. But you have to hurry, registration closes tonight at midnight.

Scheduled Friday through Sunday the Latter-day Saint conference is aimed at those 31 to 45 and is the first of its kind to be held in St. George. While single members in the area have their own ward and are offered many different activities, that hasn’t been the case as they get older.

“People get lost. The singles locally need support. This conference is an opportunity for them to network with people our own age and have a great time too,” said Katie Gubler, Mid-Singles Conference Committee Director for St. George.

The Conference has been held other places in the past however, never in Southern Utah. Gubler said they chose to hold it here after a steering committee was formed in the area to plan activities where singles in this age group will have more chances to meet friends and network. The conference is the first of these.

“People our age don’t have a place to go to get out and get to know people,” Gubler said. “There are just not a lot of venues to hang out. We started a steering committee so to help plan opportunities for single men and women, our age. The conference is a kick off to these future events we are planning.”

Dancing, speed dating, karaoke and guitar hero are all lined up on this weekend’s itinerary of events along with traditional speakers and workshops. There are also service projects and temple sessions planned and Olympic-style games. For live entertainment, local artist Eric Dodge will perform Friday at 8pm followed by a dance at the St. George East Stake Center.
