Four DSC players score double digits in victory against Utah Valley

OREM, Utah- Four players led the Dixie State women’s basketball team to a 75-72 victory over Division I Utah Valley University in an exhibition game on Saturday night.
 
Chanel Maxey connected on four first half three-pointers on her way to a team-high 14 points. Sheila Adams added 13 points, Johnna Brown 12 points and Breann Hill chipped in 10 points.
 
With UVSC opening up its largest lead at 28-16 with 8:40 left in the first half, the Red Storm went on a 27-7 run to end the half. The run featured a barrage of three pointers from Maxey and put DSC in the locker room with a 43-35 lead.
 
In the 2nd half the Red Storm would open up its largest lead at 19 points on a Brigette Spinks lay-up with 15:19 left in the game.
 
The Red Storm would lead 73-63 with 1:37 left in the game. UVU would cut the game to three points with just 36 second left on a three-pointer by Sammie Jensen.
 
Dixie State would miss six straight free throws with less than 45-seconds remaining. UVU would fail to get off the game tying three pointer by Jenna Johnson as time expired.
 
Dixie State shot 48.2 (27-56) percent from the floor and a dismal 54.2 (13-24) percent from the line.  Dixie State’s Erica Carlson had team-high eight rebounds.
 
Wolverines shot 35.4 (23-65) percent from the field and 70 (21-30) percent from the line. UVU won the battle of the boards 46-36. Sammie Jensen had 18 points and 21 rebounds in the loss.
 
The Red Storm will play its second of three exhibition games at Southern Utah University on Friday night in Cedar City. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
