Local teams compete at state golf tourney

ST. GEORGE – Sunbrook golf course here in St. George was the setting for this year’s 3A and 4A boys’ state golf tournament. Team winners were Bonneville (4A) who shot 601 over two rounds and Park City (3A) who tallied a two round total of 585. Desert Hills (3A) was second shooting 605 for the tournament. Dixie (4A) finished seventh overall with a score of 637, Snow Canyon (4A) was 14th shooting 648. Other 3A action saw Hurricane finish 9th overall with a score of 675 and Canyon View was 10th scoring 686.

Individual 4A winner was Bonnevilles Greg Diaz who shot a two round total of 142. Defending state champion McCoy Willey from Dixie was 146 for the tournament and finished 4th overall. In 3A individual action Park City’s Micheal Coopman took overall honors shooting a 143. Desert Hills Christian Adams was second by two strokes with a 145.

In other local sports, Snow Canyons girls' soccer fell to Timpanogos in the semi-finals 1-0 Tuesday afternoon. The Timberwolves scored on a long free kick from Marissa Nimmer in the 36th minute. The Warriors trip to the semi’s was the first in school history.
