Experience life through seven decades at Dixie Forum

ST. GEORGE – Just in time for Dixie State College’s Centennial Homecoming, DSC’s weekly noontime “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” series will take a look at life at the College through the eyes of Dixie faculty emeritus Dr. Andrew Barnum. The Forum will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at noon, in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus. Admission is free for all community members, DSC students, and faculty and staff.

Barnum will share his many experiences and perspectives on Dixie’s near 100-near history in his presentation entitled “Experiencing Dixie College through Seven Decades.” At age 86, Barnum has been a part of Dixie High School/Dixie College for 70 years, beginning with his time as a student in 1940. After completing his education, he returned to Dixie as a biology professor in 1959, and formally retired almost a decade ago, though he continued to teach students in the biology lab up until late last year.

The Dixie Forum will continue each Tuesday through the rest of the fall semester. Upcoming guest speakers include renowned astrophysicist Dr. Jennifer Lotz of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, who will discuss space and the galaxies in her presentation “Collisions in the Cosmos” on Oct. 12. Then on Oct. 19, DSC assistant professor of English Dr. Ami Comeford will share her findings on pop culture in her presentation “Vampires, Slayers, Demons and ‘Angels’: Pop Culture’s Academic Bite, or ‘A Little Less Ritual and a Little More Fun.’”
