Police investigating mail theft

ST. GEORGE – The St. George Police Department is investigating a series of mail thefts that occurred over this past weekend primarily isolated to the 1300 North block of Dixie Downs Rd. Several cluster mailboxes were broken into and a number of items were stolen. Most of the stolen mail was recovered in the area; however, a few pieces of mail, including checks, are still missing.

The St. George Police Department is working with the United States Postal Service on this investigation and will be following up with some physical evidence located near the scene.

"Although great measures are taken to secure our mail and this sort of crime is not rampant, periodically we receive this variety of theft report. Often times we put our outgoing mail in the box the day before we want it to be mailed. This sometimes means our mail sits in the mailbox all night long or over the weekend, leaving it vulnerable to thieves. An excellent practice would be to put your mail in the mailbox the day you expect it to go out," said officer Johnny Heppler.
