Doobie Brothers to perform at Tuacahn

IVINS – Tuacahn Center for the Arts will feature country band the Doobie Brothers on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.
The Doobie Brothers have a laid-back sound that ranges from blues to jazz, country, rock, gospel and jazz.
The Doobie Brothers have an extensive history. They’ve been making music since 1979, with only a few years of rest in the mid-1980s. They won three Grammy Awards in 1980 (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group, or Chorus) and were nominated for three more Grammy Awards in 1981.  Seven of their albums have also reached Platinum certification.
The Doobie Brothers’ newest album, World Gone Crazy, will be released Sept. 28.
A reason the Doobie Brothers have chosen to play at Tuacahn is because of the beautiful stage.
“Tuacahn is getting more of a reputation for professional artists to perform because of the set,” said D. Scott Raine, executive director of marketing and development at Tuacahn Center for the Arts. “Artists come here and say, ‘Wow! You gave us a full house. This is beautiful.'”
Tuacahn’s reputation is even beginning to precede it.
“It used to be when we were talking to professional artists about playing at Tuacahn, they’d say ‘Tua-who?’ But this has definitely changed,” Scott said. “Tuacahn is definitely on the map. We’re doing a lot less of calling artists and asking them about coming – we’re having artists and managers calling us and saying, ‘We want to come to Tuacahn.'”
The beautiful red desert of Southern Utah, even aside from Tuacahn itself, has also drawn the Doobie Brothers.
“They’re coming a day early to do some sight-seeing,” said Scott.
The Doobie Brothers’ concert at Tuacahn will start at 8 pm on Sept. 6. Tickets range from $49.50 to $69.50.  Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 435-652-3300 or bought online at http://www.tuacahn.org.
