ST. GEORGE — Oct. 11 marked the 128th anniversary of the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR, comprised of the descendants of the patriots who won American independence, was founded as a service organization in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. DAR chapter members across the nation and abroad came together to show their continued dedication to service by participating in the National DAR Day of Service.

Color Country Chapter, located in St George, donated monies, supplies and time to “Days for Girls,” an international project that supplies feminine hygiene kits all over the world to young girls so they may stay in school during their special time of month.

Without these kits, as much as 60 days of school is lost per year. At a local St George workshop, chapter members joined other volunteers to sew, cut, glue, fold and assemble a variety of items that, when merged together, become extremely useful hygiene kits that are distributed worldwide to young girls in more than 120 countries on six continents.

Color Country Chapter is committed to making a difference in the the community through their volunteerism and service to others.

“The chapter donated nearly 9000 service hours in 2017, and we are striving to break that record in 2018,” said Valerie King, Color Country Chapter regent.

There are over 3,000 chapters in United States, Washington D.C. and internationally with over 185,000 active members. Nearly 950,000 women have joined the DAR since its founding, and it is their patriotic devotion that has sustained them for 128 years.
