ST. GEORGE — The baseball team from Brigham Young University made its yearly appearance at Bruce Hurst Field Tuesday night, defeating Utah Tech 11-6 in front of 1,463 fans.

The hometown Trailblazers were undone after BYU plated eight runners in the second inning.

Utah Tech chipped away at the big lead, tallying solo runs in the first, fourth, seventh and ninth frames along with a two-spot in the fifth.

The Trailblazers just could not put up a big inning of their own as BYU’s defense produced inning-ending double plays three times in the contest.

Kuhio Aloy and Crew Robinson each hit home runs for the visitors. Former Snow Canyon standout Luke Anderson returned to St. George with a double and two RBI in BYU’s win.

Former Dixie product Cooper Vest also appeared for the Cougars in the game and scored a run. BYU improved to 10-8 with the victory.

Utah Tech belted out 10 hits in the game, led by two knocks apiece from Blake Borgogno (two RBI) and Karson Irvin (double, triple, three runs scored). Aaron Perez contributed three RBI for the Trailblazers.

Utah Tech finished a four-game homestand with the setback after taking two of three games in a series against Western Athletic Conference rival Sacramento State.

The Trailblazers are 5-14 overall and 3-3 in WAC play. They will next hit the road for a conference series at Seattle University March 22-24.
