HURRICANE — Police are investigating a rollover in which a passenger car landed upside-down after hitting a parked vehicle Friday on a residential street in Hurricane.

At 6:45 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to 100 North where they found the overturned green Toyota in the middle of the road, Hurricane Police officer Ken Thompson said.

“The driver was able to get himself of the vehicle on his own,” he said.

The Toyota was heading east on 100 North and “for some unknown reason,” struck a parked car before rolling over and landing on its roof.

The driver told police he was unable to see the parked vehicle due to his vision being obscured by the sun shining in his eyes.

“We’re not sure what happened at this point,” Thompson said.

The driver was properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained only minor injuries. After being checked by EMTs at the scene he declined to be transported to the hospital.

No citations have been issued at this point, Thompson said. “The crash is still under investigation as to speed and other factors to determine the cause.”

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the roadway.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
