CEDAR CITY — Kathleen Gonder, chief of interpretation and visitor information at Bryce Canyon National Park, has been named superintendent of Cedar Breaks National Monument.
Gonder, a 29-year National Park Service veteran with broad experience in park administration and leadership, will begin her new duties Feb. 3.
“I am excited to join the team at Cedar Breaks and continue the great work that the park staff are engaged in with a variety of park and local partners,” she said.
Gonder started her career at Great Basin National Park in 1989. Since then she has worked at six other park service sites: Dinosaur National Monument, Golden Spike National Historic Site, the Albright Training Center, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area and Bryce Canyon National Park.
Gonder also recently served as the acting superintendent at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site.
“Kathleen’s greatest strengths include financial management, community collaboration and interpretive program development, including astronomy programs, guided hikes and ranger talks,” said Zion National Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh, who oversees Cedar Breaks National Monument.
“I know Kathleen’s penchant toward collaboration will combine with the current employees’ strengths to make the monument a great place to work while also continuing to protect the parks resources, infrastructure and improve on visitor services.”
