ST. GEORGE — Police say a black SUV fled the scene of a four-vehicle collision after rear-ending a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk and causing a chain reaction.
The vehicles were traveling south on Main Street when a white truck stopped at a crosswalk to let a pedestrian cross. A blue Nissan Sentra stopped behind the truck and a silver Ford Escape stopped behind them.
A black SUV then ran into the back of the Escape, causing it to crash into the Sentra, St. George Police officer Dave McDaniel said.
About five seconds later, a black Dodge Charger crashed into the back of the SUV, sending all of the vehicles into each other again.
“There was a vehicle in front of us that stopped and so I stopped, and then I got hit. And a moment later, I got hit again,” the driver of the Nissan said.
The driver of the SUV then reportedly drove away from the scene. The drivers of the other three vehicles noted damage to the SUV and St. George Police are searching for the vehicle.
“If they had stayed they would have received just a simple citation for following too closely at a reasonable distance. Now that they’ve run from the scene it’s going to be a little harder when we find them,” McDaniel said.
No injuries were reported and everyone involved was wearing seat belts.
The driver of the Charger was found to be driving without a license and to be distracted while driving. She was issued a citation for careless driving and no driver’s license ever obtained.

Having been a victim of a hit and run earlier this year on Bluff, I sincerely hope they find the driver of the black SUV. It is cowardly to flee an accident. Good luck local law enforcement, may the force be with you. To all the victims, lucky you are ok, my sympathy goes out to you, as a hit and run has a psychological aspect. Forgive but dont forget is all I can say. It took over a week for my sore back to recover at the time, and wasn’t sure there was permanent damage. Good luck.
Were any cellphones damaged ?
I still don’t understand “Hit and Runs” in this town. Actually just the “run” part. Nobody drives over 30 mph here. I mean, how far could they get?
