ST. GEORGE — Women in Southern Utah and surrounding communities who want to go into public service, step into community leadership or get involved in Utah politics as candidates or campaign managers are invited to attend the nonpartisan “Real Women Run” Southern Utah training seminar.
Attendees at this event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce, will learn from local leaders, current elected officials in Utah and campaign experts.
LaRene Cox, Washington County School Board member and president of the Utah Federation of Republican Women, will be one of the speakers at Saturdays conference.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this event in St. George,” Cox said. “Our goal is to encourage interest in public service by providing training, networking and discussion in an effort to increase women’s participation and involvement with campaigns. We’re excited about the great local experts and leaders we have lined up as speakers.”
In addition to Cox, other speakers include the following:
- Lowry Snow, Utah state representative.
- Donia Jessop, Hildale mayor.
- Miriah Elliott, Ivins City Council member.
- Nancy Hauck, associate provost of Community & Global Engagement at Dixie State University.
- Becki Bronson, public relations expert.
- Henrie Walton, director of Institute of Politics and Public Affairs at DSU.
- D’Mia Lamar, Southern Utah University student body president.
- Don Willie, campaign expert.
Registration to Real Women Run is $25 for general registration and $10 for students. Registration includes light breakfast, full lunch and a discount registration to Real Women Run’s Winter Training in Salt Lake City on Jan. 19.

Yes, we need more women in politics and business because…sorry that’s where I draw a blank.
For myself I’m calling for fewer women in politics and business. Their increased participation over the past couple of decades has weakened the country. Women are not as competent as men at most tasks – and I say this as a man who has worked with plenty of women over the years. I can’t think of any job I’ve ever done or seen done in the workplace that wasn’t done best by men. Women can’t do as much work, they can’t do it as well as men, and there are plenty of tasks they simply can’t do at all.
Every pro-woman argument fails at the test of logic and reason. “Women are equal to men.” No, they aren’t, that simply isn’t true, never was true, and doesn’t become true via repeating it over and over. If women were equal to men, they wouldn’t have to say it. Ever hear a man say “Men are equal to women?” Never. We don’t have to say it. We’ve been ruling the known universe for like a hundred thousand years.
And this is aside from the fact that equal employment opportunities for (let’s face it) less work, facilitates single motherhood in our society to a tremendous degree. Used to be a time when women had to think really hard about having a kid out of wedlock, or divorcing a husband with whom she had children. A single woman on her own couldn’t pay for children, and as we’ve seen evidenced by ALL relevant modern crime statistics, single women can’t properly RAISE children either. So the old system was win-win.
Now, though, because our government says so, women can just go out and get a job. Any job. Never mind that they can’t do the job as well as a man, they HAVE to be hired anyway. God forbid some employer should actually say, “Ya know, I’d prefer to pay my wages to a man because he can do more work.”
So women are suddenly dropping rug rats left and right. I don’t even remember the last time I met a young woman over 19 or so who didn’t have at least one kid. And why not? They can satisfy their maternal desires without a man around now. At the expense of the economy but so what?
I know “things” are never going back the way they were. I know I’m a terrible sexist by current standards. And full disclosure, I was raised in a household in which my mother did exactly what my father told her to do, even when he didn’t tell her. I mean, no apologies, my mother was naturally inclined to be a traditional housewife and it worked very well. So well, in fact, that I have to wonder why that paradigm has been permanently abandoned in favor of turning women into men.
I understand you are a hard worker. But, have you seen this younger generation of lazy, overly sensitive males? Geeeeze, I’m 48 (bday was yesterday. Happy birthday to me) and I can outwork these lazy creatures.
I wish, we would go back to having some men in this world. I agree with your comment except the fact that this younger generation is a bunch of wusses that old ladies will outwork.
I’m certain that, in light of your comments, you don’t do well with women, either in the workplace or in a social setting. Your ” I can’t think of any job I’ve ever done or seen” line proves that you have very limited work experience. The one truth I do see in your comments is that you are “a terrible sexist.” When you say “We’ve been ruling the known universe for like a hundred thousand years”, you are overly generous to say “we”, when we both know you don’t rule anything.
The depth of your insecurities is mind-boggling. I could rebut your comments (starting with a recommendation to take an Intro to American Government course, since you don’t seem to understand the basic premise of equal employment/affirmative action). However, since you acknowledge being a sexist and view my opinion as beneath yours, I suppose my educated perspective from three degrees would go in one ear and out the other. NickDanger’s rampant -isms are on display yet again. The failures in logic are so evident. Look at the following:

NickDanger doesn’t even try to hide that his only metric is power. He never actually explains beyond a rhetorical quip about “ruling the known universe” (which is patently false given the documented matriarchies in the world) how women aren’t equal. He never satisfies the ridiculous claim that women provide less work for the same pay (ha). And the notion that women’s equality would be self-evident and not require naming is a simplistic argument that ignores how culture works. And its logically inconsistent with his own statement about men ruling the world. And make no mistake, he founds his racism in the same weak foundation.
But lets analyze one patently false claim:

NickDanger is making an argument that we can use crime statistics to judge their ability at raising children, a metric of equality in his mind. If his premise is accurate (its highly questionable at best) then the statistics show that women are quite capable of raising kids as crime has been declining across the board since the 90s. It would appear as if women are quite equal by his own metric.

Its almost like sexist, white nationalist like NickDanger don’t understand the basic tenets of our Constitution. Equality isn’t a right our government gives to us; its a “natural right” our founders recognized was the primary job of a democratic republic to protect. They recognized men like NickDanger would always try to oppress others for their selfish whims. The only way hateful and discriminatory theories like his survive is by either mischaracterizing these fundamental liberties or relying on the ignorance of readers. More people need to understand the difference between liberties derived from natural laws (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness) and government granted rights so the pernicious -isms like NickDanger espouse never grow to fruition.

Correction:
My use of matriarchies was incorrect. More accurate terms would be eqalitarian, matrilineal or matrifocal societies. Most anthropologist believe a true matriarchy hasn’t been discovered.
The title of this event is offensive to women who do not want to run for office. The implication is that if you don’t run, you’re not a ‘real woman’. I realize it’s a catchy little pun and everything but please organizing committee, put on your creative hats and come up with a better name.

Instead of assuming offence, take a few moments to learn more. The idea is that “real women” (everyday, normal people with real lives) are making a difference in their communities, whether they run for office, volunteer on a campaign, or become civically engaged in other ways.
Like I said, I’m not a “real woman”. I stay far away from politics!

I am guessing you understand the sincere response Dr_PF just provided. The organization isn’t about claiming what women should do but about providing everyday, “real women” who have an interest in participating in government with the skills and tools to do so. It isn’t trying to say women without an interest in government participation aren’t “real women”.
Just look at their “about” statement:

I once again find sad irony in LBA using prejudicial and discriminatory assumptions about my sex to justify her bigotry. And remember, this is the person that consistently proselytizes and quotes her Christianity on this forum. But I think I’ve done well if people have no clue about my sex, gender and sexual orientation as it has zero relevance to my ideas. It also helps expose those who rather rely on biases and prejudices to insult others rather than engaging the merits of public statements.
What would a Real Christian do? I don’t remember Jesus encouraging the crowd to throw more rocks and stones. Seems to me he encouraged his followers to lead with kindness and not oppress others. My Bible must be wrong I guess.
What else do you expect from someone who thinks being gay is a choice?
