ST. GEORGE A St. George man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl during two separate incidents in 2017 is in custody in Utah County facing multiple felony charges.

Peter Aron Songmow, 20, was arrested Sept. 20 and booked into the Utah County Jail suspected of three first-degree felony offenses, including one count of rape and two counts of forcible sodomy, according to court documents released to St. George News by the 4th District Court in Provo Thursday.

The arrest stems from incidents that came to light during an unrelated investigation, during which a teenager told investigators she was assaulted by Songmow on two separate occasions last year. The juvenile was 15-years-old when the incidents allegedly occurred.

The first incident took place in January 2017, when Songmow allegedly took the girl to a secluded area near Skyridge High School in Lehi and, despite the juvenile’s attempts to fight him off, he sexually assaulted her.

Then, in March 2017, the defendant approached the teenager again at the high school and told her to follow him to a secluded area nearby, and when the girl protested, Songmow threatened to disclose to another what they had done in January.

Fearing that Songmow would harm her, the teenager complied and followed the defendant to the secluded area where he sexually assaulted her for a second time, according to investigators.

Songmow was later arrested and transported to the Utah County Jail by police.

At the time of his arrest, Songmow told detectives he could not remember his Social Security number, did not have a state-issued driver’s license or identification card, but claimed he had a passport, which was never provided to police.

Police also discovered that the defendant has multiple social media accounts in two different names.

According to the most recent social media account, Songmow was a student at Skyridge High School until September 2016, and the account shows St. George as his place of residence as of September 2018.

Court records also indicate that investigators could find no adult criminal history on the defendant who was reportedly born in Micronesia, a region that consists of thousands of islands in the Western Pacific Ocean.

The initial appearance scheduled for Sept. 26 has been continued until Oct. 3, a clerk at the 4th District Court in Provo said Thursday. The defendant remains in the custody of the Utah County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bail as this report publishes.

Police declined to comment on the investigation.
