ST. GEORGE — A flood advisory has been issued for a large area of the Arizona Strip as thunderstorms move through the region Monday.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued the flood advisory for northeastern Mohave County in northwestern Arizona. The advisory is in effect until Monday at 4:15 p.m. MST / 5:15 p.m. MDT.
At 1:08 p.m. MST / 2:08 p.m. MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain in the area due to thunderstorms. This is expected to cause flooding of washes and low lying areas within the advisory area.
Some locations likely to experience flooding include Mt. Trumbull, Toroweap Campground, Peach Springs, Tuweep, Grand Canyon Ranch, Bar Ten Ranch, Valentine, Grand Canyon Skywalk, Diamond Creek Campground and Diamond M Ranch.
As flooding occurs, river or stream flows will elevate and ponding of water in urban or other areas is likely to occur. The flooding has the potential to leave standing water on roads, including Interstate 40 in Arizona between mile markers 83 and 93.
Motorists are advised not to drive into areas where water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow a car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
