ST. GEORGE — An organization with the stated goal of bringing together resources for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to better help them understand the LGBTQ community will be hosting a free presentation titled “Being a Good Mormon and Supporting God’s LGBTQ Children.”

The presentation will be Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center on the Dixie State University campus.

Richard Ostler, founder of Listen Learn and Love and active Mormon, will be the presenter. According to a press release for the event, while serving as an LDS church’s Young Single Adult bishop, Ostler “connected with God’s LGBTQ children and better learned their unique, and often difficult road.”

He shares Christlike principles to support, respect and love God’s LGBTQ children, the press release states, adding that the presentation is not affiliated with the LDS church.

“I’ve been to Richard’s presentation and encourage you to attend,” said Steve Young, former NFL quarterback and Listen, Learn, and Love advisory board member.

The event is designed to be consistent with President M. Russell Ballard’s comments from a November 2017 devotional at Brigham Young University:

Mormon leaders, along with the rank and file, need to listen to and understand what LGBT members are feeling and experiencing. We must do better than we have in the past until all feel they have a spiritual home… a place to worship and serve the Lord.

The event is open and free to the general public – generally 18 and older, the press release states. However, registration is required at the Listen Learn and Love event webpage or at Eventbrite.

Listen Learn and Love provides a central resource with links to organizations, therapists, crisis services, articles, stories, blogs, podcasts books and Facebook groups. Its mission statement can be found here.

      Copy that.

      On another note…
I thought the term “mormon” and “LDS” were not to be used anymore.

And they say quitting cigarettes is hard….

Is the source you are referring to the LDS Church membership?
