ST. GEORGE — While a man was unloading his groceries in Cedar City, police say a woman snuck into his car and stole his credit card Tuesday.

Angela Nichole Devall, 20, allegedly stole the man’s credit card from his car and and started to make purchases with it at places like Walmart, Game Stop and online, Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack said.

“The man noticed a short time later that his credit card had been stolen and then almost immediately, charges were being made at local businesses,” Womack said.

In just under 2 hours, Devall spent about $3000 with the card, Womack said. Because there were charges made at local business, Womack said police were able to use footage from surveillance cameras at the businesses to quickly track down Devall and arrest her.

Devall was booked into the Iron County Jail and charged with two third-degree felonies of unlawfully acquiring and using a financial card, as well as a misdemeanor for burglary of a vehicle.

According to court documents, Devall’s criminal history in Utah includes an assault charge in 2016.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified one of Devall’s previous charges.
