ST. GEORGE — Not paying attention and driving too fast were the reasons that St. George Police say caused a driver to rear end a car, leading to a four-vehicle pileup near Costco Saturday afternoon.
The crash, which occurred on the road at 3035 E. 850 North at 2:45 p.m., resulted in a minor injury for one of the drivers, who was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The three cars in front of the driver who caused the crash were stopped at a red light at the time of the crash, according to police.
Emergency personnel from the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

hmmmmmm. Not paying attention. So said vehicle smashes into 3 cars ahead waiting at stoplight. So equivalent to hitting a parked car. Driver was obviously distracted by SOMETHING. Wonder what caused the distraction? Well, one person in hospital, ambulance very costly. I wonder if insurance co or lawyer will subpoena cell phone records. Likely not, as rear end is a slam dunk anyway. Perhaps another case where exact cause of accident cannot be truly accounted for… as driving with cell phone goes under the radar and very difficult to prove. Admittting it will result in additional penalties. Once again statistics are under reported.
Ask yourself how many times with all the accidents reported in the STG news has driving distracted with a cellphone been mentioned as a cause? 1 prime location where people initiate the use of cell phones while driving is when they get into their vehicle to leave in a parking lot such as Smiths or Costco. I’ve seen this many times. So it is not an impossibility. This is as opposed to getting an incoming call of course. Sherlock Holmes
Yes Sir, Subpoena the distracted drivers cell phone records, and sue the living hell out of them, better yet get their license revoked…but good ol’ “get ‘er done” attitude can be seen anyday here in good ol’ southern Utah, and Mesquite, and Vegas as these folks think they are that important….News Flash, Your Not, so get off the damn phone when your driving…or hit me and I’ll take away everything you’ll ever work for
I heard the driver who plowed into the back of that car was looking for someone to turn left in front of. When they couldn’t find a good “Utah Left”,they decided to try a rear-ender.
Gee, I wonder what made the drivers not pay attention? Couldn’t be their cellphones could it? Nah! Until and unless the STGPD starts cracking down on people and issuing citations, these crashes will continue to go up. It’s ridiculous how lenient and lax this entire state is!
