ST. GEORGE — A man was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of murdering Elizabeth Carter, the woman found dead Wednesday in her apartment in St. George.
Kevin Ray Mcatlin, believed by police to be responsible for Carter’s death, was located in Moab and taken into custody, according to a statement released by the St. George Police Department Saturday evening.
The arrest came about after police were called to an apartment complex at 500 N. Bluff Street Wednesday when the body of a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Elizabeth Carter, of St. George, was discovered inside one of the units.

Due to the suspicious circumstance and the condition of the apartment when police arrived, police said an “all hands on deck” investigation into Carter’s death was initiated.
Over the course of several days, information and evidence collected led police to Mcatlin, who was initially a person of interest.
“The Investigations Division of the St. George Police Department has been working tirelessly pursuing leads, witnesses, and physical evidence,” the statement reads.
As the investigation continued, physical evidence led police to believe that Carter was “killed by Kevin Ray Mcatlin,” and a warrant for his arrest was obtained.
Mcatlin remains in custody at the Grand County Jail at the time of this report.
Police said no further details are being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation as detectives continue to process evidence related to the incident.
“These types of cases are complex and technically challenging,” the statement reads, adding that multiple agencies assisted detectives in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect.
Assisting agencies include the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office, Utah State Crime Lab, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Moab City Police Department and others.
“We would like to acknowledge the hard work and long hours of our detectives have committed to this case, and continue to dedicate to completing the investigation and documentation,” the statement reads. “At this time, we want to take a moment to express our sincere condolences on behalf of the St. George Police Department to the family and friends of Elizabeth Carter.”
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Great work SGPD and other agencies. The statement that was released consoling family and friends was very nice. Liz deserved that and more.
Well written and well thought out.
I wonder if this was one of those drug related things. We see that all too often around here.
Where does one go to not see it all too often around?
