Fire weather watch issued for southwestern Utah

ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a fire weather watch for wind and low relative humidity for southwestern Utah.

It will be in effect from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening.

Affected areas

The fire weather watch will affect the fire weather zones for the Mojave Desert and Grand Staircase, including portions of Washington, Kane, Garfield, San Juan and Wayne counties.

Winds

When the warning is in effect, southwest winds of 15-25 mph are expected with gusts over 35 mph.

Relative humidity

Afternoon minimum of 10 percent or less.

Impacts

Any fires that develop will have the potential to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautions and preparedness

A fire weather watch means that there is a potential for critical fire weather conditions. Continue to monitor for the latest forecasts and for possible Red Flag Warnings.
