ST. GEORGE — A male was injured and taken to the hospital after a fire started inside a car parked near the Wingate Hotel in St. George Sunday night.

A passerby first noticed a fire inside a Ford Mustang that was in the hotel parking lot at about 10 p.m. Sunday, St. George police officer Lona Trombley said. The male inside the car was unconscious.

“Another citizen who was nearby came and helped them remove the occupant from the vehicle as the fire continue to grow,” Trombley said. “This person was unconscious and had suffered several burns to their body.”

He is expected to survive and is being treated for his burns, Trombley said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by police.

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
