WASHINGTON CITY — Two vehicles collided on Telegraph Street after a driver ran a red light and was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. officers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash at 700 W. Telegraph Street involving a gray Honda passenger car and a white GMC pickup truck.

Officers found the Honda in the middle of the intersection blocking one westbound lane on Telegraph, while the pickup truck was out of the roadway, Washington City Police Department public information officer Ed Kantor said.

Officers determined that the woman driving the Honda was westbound on Telegraph and failed to stop when the traffic light turned red, continuing through the intersection of 700 West.

Meanwhile, the GMC pulled into the intersection to head north on 700 West and struck the driver’s side panel of the Honda, which spun the car around in the intersection.

Traffic was impeded for a short time, Kantor said, as the Honda was pulled from the roadway into the shopping center parking lot shortly after officers arrived.

The GMC was damaged but remained operational and was driven from the intersection, while the Honda sustained extensive damage and was later towed from the scene.

No injuries were reported, and no citations have been issued at this point, as the investigation into the crash is ongoing, Kantor said.

The Telegraph collision marks the last statement issued by Kantor, who is retiring after a 35-year career in law enforcement. He began as an officer with the Sandy Police Department and retired from there before he and his wife moved to Southern Utah more than 12 years ago.

In 2006, Kantor began working for the Washington City Police Department shortly after the agency opened its doors.

“And I’ve been with the department ever since,” he said.

Kantor has provided press releases and statements on more than 200 crashes and similar incidents to St. George News reporters since 2012.

Kantor said he is “going fishing, and once summer is over I’ll figure out what I’m going to do when I grow up.”

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Hey, was it worth it to run the red light and have “extensive damage to your car?” Everyday within the first 1/2 hr of leaving my house I see about 2 red light runners – IMPATIENCE.
