Family Roots Expo coming to St. George aims to connect families 1 person at a time

ST. GEORGE — A Family Roots Expo coming to St. George in September aims to tap into the growing intrigue people are finding in connecting with their heritage and discovering what in their ancestry may make them tick.

The “Connecting Families One Person at a Time” expo will be held Sept. 15-16 at the Dixie Center St. George, 1835 S. Convention Center Drive.

The two-day event will bring two concerts, keynote speakers, over 110 booths and an interactive expo hall. Activities will include panning for gold, dipping candles, enjoying Native American dancers and experiencing life as it was for pioneers. Plenty of experts will be on hand to help people search out their ancestors and find their own story.

Keynote speakers will include John Bytheway, Merrill and Justin Osmond, Dallin A. Larsen, Glenn Rawson, Daniel Rona and the Eyre family, each lending their unique perspectives on family history.

Admission to classes and speaker events varies based on one- two- and platinum-pass rates. See event details below.

Sept. 15 events will include a “Salute to Our Veterans” concert starring country-western singer Chris Petersen at 7 p.m., preceded by a veterans-benefit auction at 6:30 p.m. Among the items to be auctioned are a $200 Visa gift card from Bank of Southern Utah, a $900 Stealth Pro Angler Kayak from Lifetime, and two chances to secure $1,000 worth of beef, cut and wrapped from Oak Rose Ranch. There will also be a silent auction. Concert admission is $15 (without an adult platinum 2-day pass).

Sept. 16 events will include a concert by musical trio Gentri offering rich tones and dynamic harmonies at 7 p.m. Concert admission is $25 (without an adult platinum 2-day pass).

“Our goal is to help our attendees connect generations of their family’s (sic) one person at a time,” the event coordinator’s news release states. “… Whether you’re an expert genealogist, is (sic) just checking out what genealogy is all about; the Family Roots Expo is an ideal place to learn more and have a great time!”
