ST. GEORGE – The driver of a Jeep Liberty was taken to the hospital Tuesday night following a collision in the intersection of River Road and Riverside Drive.

Around 10:25 p.m., the Jeep Liberty was eastbound when it entered the intersection and collided with a Toyota Camry making a left turn, St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes said.

As the driver of the Jeep Liberty was nearing her home at the time of the collision, family members soon arrived on scene and took her to Dixie Regional Medical Center for examination. The woman was “pretty shaken up” by the incident, Holmes said.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was unharmed and cited for failure to yield on a left turn.

The Jeep Liberty was towed from the scene while the Toyota Camry was driven away.

St. George Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the incident when originally reported.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement at the scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Better road safety with larger brighter stripping, more & larger stop lights & signs along with more enforcement especially motorcycle patrols. How can this growing city not do these things? Does someone in city hall believe this will get better all by itself? Can improvements prevent all collisions? Of course not but doing what needs to be done will help. Otherwise who would like to join me in opening a new auto body shop? I don’t think the current ones will be able to keep up.

Yeah, whats up with this “Left turn in front of oncoming traffic” thing going on here in the greater St. George area? We moved here from another state about 10 months ago and have never seen anything like it………ANYWHERE. (Even in L.A.)
It doesn’t have anything to do with needing more enforcement, signs, striping, patrols, etc. It has to do with awareness. The drivers doing this are going to do it regardless. Their on a mission to get where they are going and sometimes, judging by the way they look you STRAIGHT IN THE EYES as they are doing it, they just don’t care. In the 10 months we’ve been here I have personally had to “hard brake” to an almost skid 4 times to prevent colliding with an oncoming vehicle making a left in front of me. It’s crazy.
For awhile my wife and I thought (maybe) is was was because of the unusually low speed limits here. And with most drivers going BELOW the posted limit we thought maybe the drivers making these dangerous left turns figured they had plenty of time to turn in front of oncoming traffic. Well, we found that to be wrong. The problem here is the drivers ! You don’t need any more laws. patrols, etc. You need DRIVER EDUCATION. Maybe during the licensing procedure everyone should receive an Eye test for depth perception?

St G is a city extremely lacking in common road etiquette
