LOGAN — One of the teens charged with the attempted murder of a 14-year-old Cache County girl was in juvenile court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Deserae Turner was found lying in a Smithfield canal, barely alive, shot in the back of the head last month. She remains in the hospital fighting for her life.
During the hearing, 11 witnesses took the stand, but the most compelling thing to happen in the court room was when they showed a video of Deserae Turner being interviewed from her hospital bed by a police detective back on March 10.
She asked the detective who shot her, and when the detective said it was her own friends, she was in disbelief.

The media has done an excellent job hiding the names of these 2 psychos from the public–that’s not a compliment; I think it’s deceitful . I’ve hunted around everywhere. There’s really no point since the preliminaries were open to public/media. Stgnews should be the first to have the balls to come out with these names, or is everyone just wetting their pants over fear of lawsuits?
Generally, comments, we do not publish the names of juveniles involved in crimes for privacy reasons. There are exceptions but thus far those considerations have not given rise to release of these suspects’ names.

Yes, I know there’s a whole ethical debate about how much privacy is given to underage offenders. These defenders have confessed to their crimes both to the police and 1 of the 2 in his preliminary hearing. It seems though, with the magic age of 18+ the media will drag anyone’s name through the mud whether guilty or not. I think with any crime this severe the public has a right to know the names (esp with the perps having confessed). Maybe there’s some aspect I’m not accounting for? Thx for the reply.
Oh, and I know that nearly all of Utah’s major media outlets have the names. They’re just choosing not to release them, but it’s amazing because I can’t even find this info on social media, and likely with that whole town where the crime took place and the perp’s entire school likely knowing the identities… so well concealed it’s almost amusing.
Hey Bob…do Utah a favor and leave
