ST. GEORGE — Earlier this week, Desert Hills jumped into first place with a win against Dixie and a Cedar loss at Snow Canyon. As kings of the hill, now it’s up to someone else to try and knock the Lady Thunder off.
It didn’t happen Thursday night as Desert Hills blanked Pine View 2-0 in a stirring road win at Panther Stadium.
Rylee Robinson broke the scoreless tie late in the first half with her first goal of the season, putting the Thunder ahead at intermission 1-0.
Makayla Lewis doubled the margin with a netfinder in the second half. With the DH defense and goalkeeper Brittney Moore playing well, the two-goal lead was more than enough to secure the road win.
The goal for Lewis was her fourth on the season, while Moore picked up her sixth shutout of the 2015 campaign.
Desert Hills, 8-4-2 overall and a league-best 6-1-1 in region, is tops in Region 9 with 19 points. Pine View, 7-3-3 and 4-3-1, is in fourth place with 13 points.
Cedar stayed right behind the Thunder in the standings by blowing past Hurricane 5-0.
Nicole Jenkins continues her strong play, netting three goals in the game for her fourth hat trick of the season. Jenkins, a four-year varsity player for the Lady Reds, has an amazing 43 goals for Cedar and has an astonishing seven career hat tricks.
Senior Makenna Clark scored her second goal of the year and sophomore Tasha Kamachi notched her fifth of the season for the Lady Reds, while junior goalkeeper Megan Giddings now has 6.5 shutouts this year.
Cedar, 10-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in region, has 18 points, one behind DH and four ahead of Snow Canyon, which plays at Dixie Friday night.
Hurricane drops to 4-9-1 overall and 0-8-0 in region play.
After Friday’s SC-Dixie match, Region 9 soccer resumes play next Tuesday, with Cedar visiting Desert Hills, Pine View hosting Dixie and Snow Canyon hosting Hurricane.
