VIRGIN – Construction continues on Kolob Terrace Road, and travelers are advised that crews will be working Sept. 11 to make up for time off on Labor Day, Sept. 7.
The portions of Kolob Terrace Road that run through Zion National Park are undergoing major reconstruction to improve public safety and remedy structural problems.
The reconstruction project began in March. The road is being widened in certain areas, including Maloney Hill and Black Canyon, supporting walls will be reinforced and culverts will be added. Construction is expected to be complete Oct. 31.
Visitors to Springdale, the main Zion Canyon and east portions of Zion National Park via the park’s south or east entrances, who are camping, accessing the shuttle system, staying at the Zion Lodge or in the town of Springdale, will not be in the construction zone. Visitors accessing the Kolob Canyons section of the park from Interstate 15 will likewise not be affected.
The contractor for the Kolob Terrace Road reconstruction project in Zion National Park will be working Sept. 11 to make up for time off Sept. 7, Labor Day. The usual weekday closure schedule will be in place Sept. 11:
- 7-9 a.m. | Expect delays up to 30 minutes
- 9 a.m.-noon | Road will be closed to all vehicles
- 1-4 p.m. | Road will be closed to all vehicles
- 4-8 p.m. | Expect delays up to 30 minutes
After Sept. 11, the regular schedule will resume as follows:
Monday–Thursday
- 7-9 a.m. | Expect delays up to 30 minutes
- 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Road will be closed to all vehicles
- 12-1 p.m. | Expect delays up to 10 minutes
- 1-4 p.m. | Road will be closed to all vehicles
- 4-8 p.m. | Expect delays up to 30 minutes
Friday
- 7-9 a.m. | Expect delays up to 30 minutes
- 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Road may be closed to all vehicles
Saturday–Sunday
- The road will be open to traffic without closure
