WASHINGTON CITY – Authorities have released the name of a critically injured man found on southbound Interstate 15 at milepost 13 in Washington City Tuesday.
The Utah Highway Patrol issued a news release Wednesday identifying Edger Perez-Bartlol, 39, of Northfield, Minnesota, as the man who was found injured on the interstate just south of the Washington Parkway interchange.
Witnesses told UHP they saw the passenger-side door of a minivan open and a man apparently lunge out from inside. The man, later identified as Perez-Bartlol, experienced severe head trauma after hitting the roadway and was listed in critical condition by emergency responders at the scene.
Witnesses also said the driver of the minivan stopped briefly on the left side of the freeway and then quickly left the scene, according to the news release.
Reports of the incident began to reach UHP around 10:50 a.m.
Perez-Bartlol was not hit by any vehicles while in the roadway due to other motorists stopping and rendering aid.
“The traffic stopped and protected him and good citizens stepped in and actually rendered aid and called us,” UHP Sgt. Jake Hicks said. “A lot of good folks stopped to help out.”
Perez-Bartlol was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, where he remains in “very critical condition,” Hicks said.
Agents with the State Bureau of Investigation joined UHP in its investigation of the incident, which ultimately led to the minivan involved being found in California.
The driver of the minivan was identified as Guillermo Arturo Gomez-Reyes, 37, also of Northfield, Minnesota. He returned to meet with investigators in St. George, according to the news release.
“Mr. Reyes and Mr. Bartlol along with a 13-year-old male and a 10-year-old male were en route from Minnesota to California to visit family,” the release said. “During the investigation it was learned that Mr. Perez-Bartlol was having mental heath issues and that his actions last night were self inflicted. The investigation is still ongoing Reyes is fully cooperating with our investigation at this time.”
Potential criminal charges will be screened by the prosecutor’s office.
The lane in which Perez-Bartlol was found was shut down for under an hour Tuesday as the man and scene were tended to. The ramp from the Washington Parkway interchange leading down to southbound I-15 was also blocked off during that time.

Why did Reyes leave bartlol in the road and take off to California without getting aid for him? Is he illegal? Somethings fishy here.
Very sad story. From what has been revealed they were all almost certainly here illegally, and living in the shadows, so fear “made them” leave and not render aid. The current immigration situation is horrible and tearing the nation apart. The kumbaya crowd says erase the borders and let anyone that wants come in. Unfortunately the math on that doesn’t work (easily a billion people would come at once if they knew they could come and stay without fear of prosecution). It would collapse the nation. The other option is to build a fence and completely enforce our immigration laws, but to have a wide front door (let in lots of heavily-screened, skilled people that actually want to come to America to be Americans, because they love our ideals and want to contribute). The latter approach has plenty of challenges, but it’s doable, and gets my full support.
So are you planning to extend the fence all along all coastal waters as well as between the US and Mexico? How about Canada? How about the massive tunnels that are found every once in a while underneath the border? How about every airport? And every place a small plane can land, no matter how remote?
Yeah, there certainly are “challenges” with your system. Not that I know what the answer is though. If I did, you can bet I wouldn’t be sitting in front of a monitor, replying to SG News.
Yes, a tall, real fence along the entire US/Canada and US/Mexico border. Every inch. The fence would be high and extend at least 6 or 8 feet into the ground. The sections would be manufactured across the country (creating jobs) and trucked in (creating jobs), and would be installed by the military (who’s job it is to protect our country, who are already paid full time, many of them, who already have the equipment, and who will be needed for protection, given the state of the southern border). Sensitive seismic sensors can listen for the tell-tale signs of tunnels, with the highest concentrations of sensors coming in the highest risk areas (cities). Eminent domain will be used as needed (sorry Farmer Joe, border security trumps that 40 foot swath of your farm). Environmental bullcrap will be ignored (“you might squish the incredibly rare Spotted Nose-Picker!”). The coastal waters are already patrolled to a degree, but that may need to be increased once the border is secured. The cost of securing the border is high, but the cost of not securing it will be absolute given the current trajectory (which has been hastened dramatically in the last year due to ridiculous policies).
I know you’re being sarcastic & I am a rookie here at the commenting section but really..Canada? As a Canadian who spent a year and some $bucks$ getting permission from our sister/brother/neighboring/whatever you want to call it country to do it the ‘right’ way, and having contributed legally for more than 20 years I don’t think it compares to the problem with illegal immigrants from Mexico? It frustrates me quite honestly (if you didn’t already read into that). I’m all about people in search of a better life, but screw the fact that I had to go through (and continue to) such a process and those who came illegally are given a free ticket!!
JustBeNice, I’m ALL for LEGAL immigration. I’m talking about securing the borders, not closing them. If you came here through the front door, welcome! But I wasn’t being sarcastic at all about building the fence on both borders. Every nation has a right to secure its borders and control immigration. I’m all for reasonable amounts of legal immigration. After all, 100% of the people in the US are either immigrants or descendants of immigrants. The point is to control immigration and be fairly picky about who we let in. A large part of that is security, which is why we need fences on both borders.
And as for illegals getting a free ticket, I think we should prosecute and deport 100% of the time. And birth-right citizenship (which is given to and estimated 400,000 children a year born to parents here illegally) should be rescinded immediately. That clause in the Constitution was meant to give slaves citizenship, because they were brought here against their will. Illegals are coming here on their own, and shouldn’t be rewarded with citizenship or motivated as parents to get their kids citizenship. If the government announced its intention to prosecute illegals (they’re currently doing the exact opposite of that!), and prosecute those that employ them, and to cut-off all benefits to them and prosecute all fraud, the vast majority would go home on their own. We saw that in the 2008 economic crash. Tons of construction workers from my area went back to their home countries until things picked back up, then snuck back in again (that’s how porous our border are). If they need extra motivation, tell them they have 90 days to register as being here illegally, leave the country, and in the order they do that they’ll be considered for citizenship IN ORDER to the tune of 100,000 a year, or whatever. After the 90 days those caught in the US will be banned from citizenship for life. It’s firm, maybe even harsh, but no harsher than what many American’s are dealing with from crime, fraud, drugs, unemployment, high taxes, etc that are the fallout of illegal immigration.

It was years ago, that I had an appointment to sit in front of a judge here (the legal drinking age is 18 in Canada and apparently here it’s 21 :/) and first I waited while all the spanish speaking people got to go first as they needed a translator (she must have had somewhere more important to be), and I listened as the Judge asked each one of them if they were here legally or illegally. Some did answer that they were here illegally, the Judge said “that’s OK, I’m not going to do anything about it, but you need to go down to the DMV and at least get yourself an ID card” Flabbergasted. Guess what I got? “Welcome to Utah” Oh, and a $240.00 fine.

THE REASON THEY DIDN’T STOP IS BECAUSE THEY NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE SOMEWHERE TO HIDE THE DRUGS THEY WERE TRAFFICKING. I-15 IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST DRUG TRAFFIC ROUTES FOR ALL THE DRUGS COMING IN FROM MEXICO. AS TO WHY HIS “CREW” THREW HIM OUT OF THE CAR, WE MAY NEVER KNOW.

Brian, thanks for clarifying how the law originated that allows children of illegals to become citizens. I always felt sneaking in and having a baby to obtain citizenship was akin to playing tag. “NOT IT!”
