EMERY COUNTY – A Colorado woman was killed Thursday in an accident on Interstate 70, about 20 miles west of Green River, after the driver of the vehicle she was riding in reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
At about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, a white Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on I-70, near milepost 139, when it crashed into the rear of an eastbound semitrailer. After hitting the semi, the Ford went off the road into the median and rolled several times, according to a press release from Utah Highway Patrol.
The man driving the Ford later told responders he fell asleep at the wheel, which led to the crash.
A woman riding as a passenger in the Ford, identified as 21-year-old Molly K. Jensen, of Denver, Colorado, was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. Jensen was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was killed, according to the press release.
“The female died at the scene from her injuries,” the press release said.
The man driving the Ford was also not wearing a seat belt but remained inside the vehicle during the crash. Information regarding whether he sustained any injuries were not available from UHP as this report is published.
The driver of the semitrailer was not injured, according to the release.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
