ST. GEORGE – In a case of “it looked worse than it actually was,” a two-vehicle collision in front of the Trinity Lutheran Church Saturday night, temporarily blocked traffic on Red Cliffs Drive.
Around 9:30 p.m., a car turning into the church parking lot stalled, causing the driver to get out and start pushing the car.
A man driving a pickup truck, west on Red Cliffs Drive, was stopping to see if he could lend a hand, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Tripplet said. While stopping to help the woman with her stalled car, the pickup truck was rear-ended by a passenger car.
The impact smashed in the front of the passenger car and caused the bed of the pickup to collapse to one side. The passenger car was rendered inoperable while the truck was able to eventually move out of the roadway on its own. The stalled car was not impacted.
Traffic on Red Cliffs Drive was temporarily blocked as police, fire and EMS units responded and tended to the scene.
The passenger car occupants, two women, were unharmed in the crash. The man in the pickup, as well as his wife and their three children, were also uninjured, Tripplet said.
The driver of the passenger car was issued a citation for negligent collision.
