MESQUITE, Nev. – The Mesquite Police Department arrested a St. George man Sunday after discovering items in his vehicle during a traffic stop linking him to several dwelling and vehicle burglaries in the Mesquite, Nevada, and St. George areas.
On May 24, Mesquite Police stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and observed multiple items in the vehicle in plain view that are commonly used in burglaries, according to a press statement issued by the Mesquite Police Department Monday.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Ian Mamanakis, of St. George, also matched the description of a suspect who recently burglarized a local laundromat, according to the statement.
Detectives were called to the scene of the traffic stop and were able to secure and execute a search warrant on the vehicle, the statement said.
During the search, detectives located multiple items within the vehicle that linked Mamanakis to the laundromat burglary as well as three vehicle burglaries within the Mesquite area, the statement said. Evidence was also located linking Mamanakis to a residential burglary in Utah. That investigation is still ongoing.
Mamanakis was arrested and charged with three felony burglary counts, one felony count of tampering with a vehicle, two felony counts of possession of stolen property, three misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one gross misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools.
“Proactive police work is what solved these burglary cases,” Mesquite Police Lieutenant MaQuade Chesley said. “I commend our patrol division and investigation division for their keen observation skills, hard work, and seamless ability to work well together.”
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
