ST. GEORGE — The All Poly Football Camp and NFL Play 60 have partnered up with the Washington County School District Foundation for a Shop, Drop and Roll Campaign that aims to help out at-risk and homeless students in the area, and will take place at Desert Hills High School on May 22-23.

Here’s a breakdown of the campaign:

  • Shop for self-care items for the students. Think of items used from head-to-toe: shampoo, deodorant, lotion
  • Drop the items off at Desert Hill High School during football camps Friday and Saturday or at the school district office
  • Roll out your blanket and enjoy the food and football activities at Desert Hills High School

Some items to donate are cotton swabs, tissues, toilet paper, fingernail clippers, dental floss and towels. For a complete list of suggested items to donate, click on the flyer inset.

Ali’i Alo, who prefers to be referred to simply as Bear, who works with the Washington Youth Crisis Center said he believes sports help kids, especially those who are homeless or at risk, stay out of trouble, which is why he supports football camps, such as the one this weekend. These camps can also secure scholarships for student-athletes who would not otherwise be able to afford college.

For people to come, roll out the blanket and spend time with the kids and join in the activities, Bear said, is as important a means of support as the shop and drop aspects of this event. He encourages people to do both, he said.

For those unable to attend the events, please call Mike Carr, the school district’s at-risk Title I coordinator, to arrange for drop-off elsewhere: Telephone 435-986-5167.

Next year’s eighth to 12th graders are welcomed to sign up for the All Poly Football Camp, open to everyone, not just Polynesian athletes.
