“We’re still trying to figure out who and what happened,” Laura Melling, manager of Sand Hollow Complex State Parks, said.

At about 1:24 p.m., emergency personnel were called to respond to the incident, which occurred in the Sand Mountain area of the park. The fire was far enough from the main road that responders had to take portable equipment to extinguish the flames, as firetrucks could not reach the area.

The ATV was extensively damaged by the fire, Melling said. A monetary estimate of the damage has not yet been made.

No one is believed to have been injured in the fire.

As of 3:10 p.m., responders were still at the scene, Melling said.
