ST. GEORGE — Fast quarter-mile times and the roar of engines will be in ample supply Saturday and Sunday as the St. George Lions Club and Blackrock Motorsports sponsor drag races at the Ridge Top Complex in St. George, commonly known as the old St. George airport.
Automobiles, motorcycles, hot rods and specialty drag vehicles will be revving up their engines to take the trophies home. The events will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning with test and tune, then serious racing competition will start at 1 p.m. Sunday’s events will follow the same schedule.
Anyone can run a car or motorcycle in the races. Bracket racing with handicapping will be in effect for all vehicles, and a “King of the Hill” competition will be held at the close of racing each day.
The fee to run a vehicle in the test and tune is $25, with an additional $25 to enter the “King of the Hill” race, winner takes all. Admission for spectators is $5.
Fabian Ortiz, of the St. George Lions Club, said he is excited for the event.
“We have the thumbs up on everything,” Ortiz said. “We’re looking forward to a great weekend of racing.”
“One thing I’d like to remind everyone is to stay off the track,” Ortiz went on to say. “Last time, we had a lot of people out on the track and it became a safety issue. Please stay off the track this weekend unless you are racing.”
