IRON COUNTY — The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man involved in a burglary that occurred early Monday morning in Cedar City.
At approximately 1:24 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a business alarm at the Cedar Band Trading Post, located just off of Interstate 15 Exit 51, Iron County Sheriff Mark Gower said. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered that a burglary had occurred and those involved had left the area.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the business, officials concluded that a person who appeared to be a man gained access to the facility by prying open a window with a large pry bar, Gower said. Once inside, the man allegedly used the bar to force open the cash register and take an undisclosed amount of money.
The man is only believed to have taken the money from the cash register, Gower said, and no other items are believed to be missing. At the time of the incident, no one else is believed to have been inside the business.
Because the person in the footage is very concealed, investigators are unsure as to the approximate height, age and ethnicity of the person.
“We’re just hoping that somebody will recognize him, or this pry bar,” Gower said, “and provide us with information that leads to his arrest and conviction.”
The Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the burglar. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Office at 435-867-7500.
