ST. GEORGE — Two vehicles fell victim to icy road conditions in a collision on Red Hills Parkway Thursday morning.

At about 8:26 a.m., a woman driving a 2006 Dodge Stratus was traveling eastbound on Red Hills Parkway near Skyline Drive when she pulled off to the right side of the road with uncertainty as to how to travel in the present icy road conditions, St. George Police Lt. Thad Feltner said.

A short time later, a Dodge Caravan, also traveling eastbound, lost control as it came upon the Stratus and hit its rear end, Feltner said.

One occupant was treated for minor injuries at the scene but was not transported to the hospital. Feltner was not able to confirm which vehicle the individual had been riding in and no other injuries were reported.

The Caravan sustained severe damage to the driver-side front end and tire while the Stratus had moderate rear-end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The road conditions were among the contributing factors to the accident and eastbound lanes of Red Hills Parkway were shut down for about an hour until Utah Department of Transporation employees were able to spread road salt along the parkway, Feltner said.

The woman driver of the Caravan was cited for driving faster than speed for road conditions and for failure to obtain a driver’s license, the officer said.

Feltner said UDOT employees have been a big help in attending to the icy road conditions due to the snow storm on Wednesday.

“They have really helped us out from last night and today,” he said. “They got right out and scattered road salt along the bridges and other areas to keep everyone safe while traveling in these conditions.”

Feltner said the road crews were prepared as they had ordered road salt months prior to the storm’s occurrence.

St. George Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, UDOT, and Gold Cross Ambulance attended to the accident scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Caravan, no license, woman driving….that sounds like so many polygamist women I saw when working retail. By not giving them valid ID the men control them…this is not a judgement, it is a fact. A legitimate birth certificate has been issued, somewhere, in order to get state benefits but the women are ‘issued’ computer generated ID’s that only work in the border towns. They are not allowed to have their own legal birth certificate, a drivers license or any other form of ID….and they are told it’s because the outside world is ‘evil’.

Open Book test doesn’t do much for those that can’t read ya know… LOL

Let me guess…….yes, it’s an open book test, but you need a Social Security Card and Birth Cert. Maybe an “immigrant” What about insurance? Even when I renew or trade cars my agent always runs a DMV report? In my opinion, no DL should earn a night in jail!

I definitely second the night in jail! Also, just heard on the news that California will now issue a Drivers License to illegal aliens. Another new law passed effective 1/1/15. I thought Drivers licenses were a “legal” form of ID…how can it be legal if illegals have them, too? I’m waiting for the day Mexico invites us all over there and gives us the same rights and benefits as Mexican Citizens receive after they have accepted our Country’s “invitation”!

LOL you make it sound like only people with no license have accidents.. Let’s be fair about this. If someone with a license has an accident they should spend the night in jail

Be fair???? An accident is an accident. If you have a DL & insurance you are following the law! If you have neither you are breaking the law and should suffer some consequences. How would you feel about being hit by one of these irresponsible idiots? I hope you’ve got uninsured & underinsured on your auto policy!
