St. George Christmas Eve Service expects 3,000 in attendance

ST. GEORGE — Over the last 12 years, a St. George holiday tradition is the Christmas Eve Service at the Dixie Center St. George where all can listen to the Christmas story, sing hymns and carols, and celebrate the festive holiday.

The service, directed by Pastor Rick Nerud of Calvary Chapel in St. George, has grown each year, becoming the largest Christmas Eve Service in St. George. This year, the pastor is expecting between 2,000-3,000 people in attendance at the service.

Along with the Christmas story read from the scriptures, there will be traditional Christmas hymns and carols.

“The reading and singing is enhanced by video projections on three huge screens, providing beautiful Christmas backgrounds and the words so everyone can sing,” Nerud said. “All of this completed in just over an hour so families can return home for meals, stockings, maybe a little early unwrapping, and some discussion of the story they just heard.”

The service will be held at the Dixie Center, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme for this year’s service is “Love came down,” taken from John 3:16.

“Everyone is invited to this free community event to continue their Christmas tradition, or begin a new one with us,” Nerud said.

Joe Smith, you don’t have to answer that. Just put your head back in your Superman comic book and pretend you didn’t hear Wang’s nosy question.
