Corrections officer arrested for unlawful sexual activity with minor

KANE COUNTY – A 28-year-old Kane County Corrections Officer was arrested for unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Tyler C. Fox, of Kanab, was booked into jail on Sept. 30 after the father of a 15-year-old boy discovered “alarming text messages” between his son and Fox, Dathan Chamberlain of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force said in his probable cause statement supporting the arrest.

“In the text that (the father) showed me,” Chamberlain said in the statement, “it was obvious that Fox was having a text conversation with (the minor) about having a sexual encounter.”

After discovering the messages on his son’s phone, the father engaged in a Facebook conversation with Fox, posing as his son.

During the Facebook conversation, it’s obvious Fox believes he is having a conversation with the minor, Chamberlain said.

The father asked Fox, “Should we hook up again or wait?” to which Fox replied, “I don’t know. I was feeling really guilty about it afterward. Let’s at least wait a bit.”

Fox also sent the father, whom he clearly believed to be the minor, a nude picture of himself, Chamberlain said in the statement.

Fox was brought in before the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force for questioning.

“Fox was reluctant at first but then confessed to meeting with (the minor),” Chamberlain wrote in the statement. “Fox said that he picked up (the minor) and drove him to Hog Canyon. Hog Canyon is located several miles north of Kanab in Kane County, Utah.”

Fox admitted to having sexual relations with the minor, as well as sending nude photos of himself to the minor and two other minors, Chamberlain said.

Fox was arrested and charged with four third-degree felonies for unlawful sexual activity with a minor, dealing in materials harmful to minors and unlawful conduct with a 16 or 17-year-old; and three class A misdemeanors for sexual abuse of a minor and unlawful sexual conduct with a 16 or 17-year-old.

Fox was booked into the Kane County Jail and then moved to the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility. Fox was released on $46,950 bail.

He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Nov. 13 in 6th District Judicial Court before Judge Marvin D. Bagley.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

IDIOT! He doesn’t have a very good prospect of living to a ripe old age if he is found guilty and sent to state prison. Oh well, he deserves anything he gets.

Ick! We don’t know what his religion is, but I think he’s worthy of jail time.

This is disgusting! This man worked at the jail. How bad is that? What do you think he was doing to people locked up and under his control there? Tell me again about our fine protect and serve law enforcement community. Just in the last few months there have been arrests for drunk driving, rape of female inmates, corruption and theft, mishandling of narcotics and evidence, shooting and or killing people without justification and the list goes on. To me law enforcement is just a name for one of the many criminal gangs that prey on our society.

I lived in the area for 35 years. I even know the officer. Just goes to show, that we really don’t know people like we think we do. I truly hope the victim is ok, and gets the help he needs.

You can be happy and gay working at the prison. Hang in there buddy, in few years he will be old enough to marry. U can adopt children then get divorced, loose all you worked for, put your adopted children in the care of se shrinks, chances are they’ll turn to drugs end up in the joint another happy a gay sole will find them and the circle continues. That goodness for equality. Love everyone thank you.
