SANTA CLARA — A 25-year-old woman was arrested on charges of theft and forgery after she admitted to taking a family member’s checkbook.
Santa Clara-Ivins Police arrested Saryssa Breann Sagendorf, of St. George, after she admitted in an interview to writing and signing six checks from the account holder’s checkbook.
“She wrote a total of six different checks to various people to cash for her,” Santa Clara-Ivins Offier JD Shafer wrote in the probable cause statement supporting the arrest. “Two of the checks did not go through but four of them were cashed and money was obtained to a total of $880.”
Sagendorf was charged with six counts of forgery, all third-degree felonies; and five counts of theft, all class B misdemeanors. She was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility where she remains with bail set at $33,400.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Just “who” are the six various people, that she wrote checks to, to cash for her – and “why” are they not to be brought up on charges of fraud, as well?

She may have been writing those checks for some fundraiser. Surely she isn’t worthy of a harsher penalty than that esplin guy embezzling about a million dollars who got off with nothing more than a light penalty, right?

I know this girl, known her a while. Haven’t spoken to her in a long time. She hit a crossroads in her life and just didn’t do the right thing last I spoke with her. I wish her nothing but the best. Hope karma teaches her to make the right choices for her and her family. And hope she can rid herself of all the people and things she lets drag her down into this …. Surprised? No. Sad. Not for her but yes.
