HILDALE — Life Flight transported to the hospital a 13-year-old boy from the area of mile marker 6 on state Route 59 in Washington County late Saturday afternoon after he was electrocuted, Hildale Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said, and then fell onto a fence. (See ed. clarification.)
Around 5 p.m., a boy was reportedly dared by his friends to climb a power pole to retrieve a rubber snubber that had been thrown and had landed near a transformer, Hildale Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said. Upon accepting the dare, the boy shimmied up the power pole, Barlow said. While he was attempting to retrieve the object, the boy came in contact with a live wire.
The wire severely burned the boy and the electric shock caused him to fall from the pole and land on a fence. The voltage of the line is 7,200 volts, Barlow said.
Hildale Fire Department and Life Flight air transport responded to the boy’s aid. Life Flight transported the boy to Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.

Daring someone, isn’t bullying someone…hes 13, 13 year olds may have heard the dangers of such activity but they don’t really know. Now they know for sure..but daring is not bullying…being forced to.stay in polygamy because of threats of what will happen if you try and leave, that’s bullying.
Actually, yes. It’s bullying. What did they do, call him “chicken”? Why did HE have to go up the pole when the other boys didn’t?
They DARED him…..and you know it.
OK, I’ll address your bullying theory, maybe next time he will stand up to the bully….because this world is full of bullies that you can cower down too or stand up too. You can’t stop the bullies you can only stand up to them (and they will retaliate, but you stand up anyway)

BS. These boys SHOULD be shamed. Now you’re going to tell me that the Boy Scouts who carelessly felled a tree on Highway 12 should have sympathy because a motorcyclist was killed?
No way. I was raised to have responsibility, not a pity party. These little prigs need to know what it is to be on the other side of a bully…because NO kid would climb that unless he was being bulled or called “chicken”.

The boy scouts felled the tree in the wrong direction. All that space and it fell onto the road. Once again,the so-called leaders were remiss in teaching the scouts the correct way to do things. Did the leaders even know how to cut down trees? it was not a freak accident unless the wind picked up to 40 mph and sent the tree flying. It was someone letting unskilled boys do the wrong thing unsupervised.

A sad story, indeed. Kind of doubt the other boys were bullies…dares are part of growing up. Like others, I’m sending good thoughts to the family and prayers for the boy’s recovery.

What a shame. But it would be nice to have a bit more information, such as; is this child still alive, or did it kill him? It certainly sounds like it should be fatal, but the way the article is written, leaves a lot of questions!
Now how did the boy get up there?? Did the city leave the foot pegs in?? I hope he recovers with no lasting injury’s and his friends learn that not every dare is worth the consequence

Hey Bobbers Someone dares you and koolaid to either climb the same power pole are jump into the Grandcanyon. I hope for a fast recovery for these boys and their families. As for the two trolles earlier mentione, we’ll make a choice.
I’m no expert, but the word shinnied sounds kind of dumb. Maybe we should just say ‘climbed’ LOL!. Also I read somewhere that being shocked w/ that much power can leave a person permanently retarded. Is that true?

When parents are not around boys will be boys and the bad part is sometimes is somebody gets hurt. Hopefully lesson learned all the way around
“felled” I noticed this word on Fox News. So I looked it up. Its a word! Its like “hanged” when used in a certain context. I also noticed KUTV said “chopped-down.” being that they used an ax the tree would have been cut down…right? It did not “felled” Fox News are a bunch of morons. I watch it every Saturday and Sunday to watch the impending train wreck between Kelly Chapman and that Scott dude. So when they used the word “felled” it did not surprise me. Saint George News surprised me in the use of such Utonian grammar. GO FALCONS!
Bet your bottom dollar that this was not a dare. These kids work on construction sites from the time they are 8 years old. My guess is he was up on the pole to connect electrical wiring.
