CEDAR CITY — Cedar City attorney Justin Wayment and his dancing partner, Ryann Woodbury, from the Southern Utah University Ballroom Dance Company danced away with the winning vote at the Iron County Children’s Justice Center’s Dancing With Your Community Stars event Saturday.
Hundreds of community members came to support the Iron County Children’s Justice Center as members of the Ballroom Dance Company and six Cedar City community members performed at the Heritage Center Theater in Cedar City Saturday night.
These community members included Mayor Maile Wilson, Rotary Club President Dolly Trujillo-Wearn, Cedar City Police Sgt. Dave Evans, Wayment, County Assessor Cindy Bulloch, and Farmers Insurance Agent Jesse Robinson.
Robinson teamed up with SUU Ballroom Dance Company member Chandler Hall to perform the jive, Evans and his partner Beth Snarr performed the foxtrot, Bulloch and Tim Jenkins performed the waltz, Trujillo-Wearn and Dustin Liechty performed the samba, Wilson and Tom Hanratty performed the tango.
The winning couple performed the hustle and won a disco ball as their prize, which was awarded to them by audience votes throughout the show.
Each community member practiced with their partner one hour per day for one week to learn the steps, Wilson said.
Wayment said he danced 25 years ago.
“I was glad to dance again and for the cause of helping children at the Iron County Children’s Justice Center,” he said.
The master of ceremonies for the night was Valley View Medical Center Foundation Development Officer Michael France. Judges were Iron County attorney Scott Garrett, social worker Heather Fisher, and Piute County Attorney Scott Burns.
The three judges had fun teasing and pulling jokes as well as giving compliments to the couples whom performed.
“You rocked that like a boss and you are the boss,” Burns said to Wilson after her performance.
Wayment and Woodbury also received favor with the judges by being the only couple to receive a score of 30 in the first round while the other couples each received a 29 scoring.
Great energy and outstanding performance were among the comments from the judges for the dancing couple Wayment and Woodbury.
Wilson and her partner Hanratty came in second place overall as they performed the Tango.
“The experience was good,” Wilson said about performing. “It’s nice to be able to look back and watch the other couples because we all went through the same thing learning and performing.”
Being on stage for a worthwhile cause made all the difference, Wilson said.

The picture with the girl in the white dress and a red background…Is that guy using a legal dance hold there??? A little close I think lol
Kinda wondered the same about his hand. Maybe that’s how Dixie guys handle their women. It also looks like she’s wearing a nighty. Seems goofy they are onstage looking at the audience while supposedly dancing.
