WASHINGTON CITY – With the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge making its way through Southern Utah, the mayor of Washington City and some of the city staff answered the challenge Tuesday, and have subsequently challenged others.
Mayor Ken Neilson, along with Wendi Bulkley, director Washington City Community Center, and others, stood in the pool at the community center and called out others to take the Ice Bucket Challenge before they soaked in ice water themselves.
“We challenge the Washington County School District to do this and St. George Leisure Services, all of the mayors in Washington County,” Neilson said in a video posted on the Washington City Community Center’s Facebook page.

Specifically, people called out for the challenge include: Larry Bergeson, Craig Hammer and Rex Wilkey of the Washington County School District, as well as Steve Bingham, Chris Beckstead and Wayne Bullock of the St. George Leisure Service Department.
According to a post on the Washington City Community Center’s Facebook page, staff have donated to the ALS Association online and challenge others to do so as well.
“Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, often referred to as ‘Lou Gehrig’s Disease,; is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord,” according to the ALS Association website. Over time, those effected by the disease lose the ability to control their muscles until they eventually become paralyzed in its later stages.
As of Wednesday, donations from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge have raised over $94 million for ALS research since the challenge’s beginnings earlier this summer.

its great they have time and money to blow on a stupid challenge nobody does right anyways when there are families trying to recuperate from the flooding that occurred, again, in Washington. I’m calling BS, but it’s probably due to not paying the tithing or taking the sacrament.
