ST. GEORGE – One man died Wednesday morning following a collision that occurred between a cement pump truck and a full-sized pickup truck near 1275 East on Red Hills Parkway.

Around 6:20 a.m., a cement pump truck was traveling eastbound on Red Hills Parkway. As the driver, a man, began to veer around the curve in the road just past 1275 East, the cement truck couldn’t make the turn for reasons unknown to investigators at this time, St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said.

The cement pump truck then drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with a white, full-sized pickup truck heading westbound with a man driving and one passenger. The impact of the collision caused the cement truck to tip on its side.

St. George Police, St. George Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Life Flight responded to the scene.

“Life Flight was on standby,” Giles said. “But were not needed for transport.”

Both eastbound and westbound traffic lanes from Industrial Road to 1300 East have been shut down and traffic is being diverted north through Industrial Road off Red Hills Parkway.

One man that was in the pickup truck was confirmed dead on-scene, Giles said, but it is unknown whether he was the driver or the passenger of the truck. St. George firefighters had to extract the other man from the pickup truck and he was then transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.

The driver of the cement truck self-transported to Dixie Regional also with injuries, as well with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.

Both vehicles will be towed.

It is unknown at this time what factors caused the accident to occur, Giles said, the accident reconstruction team is on scene evaluating evidence in order to determine how the vehicles collided and what factors may have contributed to the collision.

Update: As of 10:15 a.m. St. George Police report the roadways affected by this accident remain closed.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by responders on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Another negligent homicide and I’m sure he’ll get away with it or just an $80 traffic ticket depending on his worthiness…

    • Rachel August 27, 2014 at 11:30 am

That is an incredibly insensitive thing to say. While it may be true, there are families mourning here. Your political pandering can wait.

    • anna thomas August 27, 2014 at 12:25 pm

What an idiotic thing to say. There is no evidence for what caused the cement truck to fail to navigate the curve, for all we know it was caused by mechanical failure. Accidents are called that for a reason, no one plans them.

    • Robb Willie August 27, 2014 at 12:35 pm

      Geez, you’re stupid.

    • Robb Willie August 27, 2014 at 12:37 pm

On the plus side, Boober, odds are the deceased person is a Mormon. That should make you happy, you jerk.

      • The Rest Of The Story August 27, 2014 at 8:56 pm

        Fingers crossed anyway.

    • 33 yr residence August 27, 2014 at 12:44 pm

Bobber, We knew both the driver of the cement truck and the driver of the truck that was smashed. They were both Very good friends on they’re way to work and had an Unfortunate accident colliding with each other. And you never know when it will be our turn….

    • mad truckdriver August 27, 2014 at 2:10 pm

You are sure a quick one to judge. Let me guess you probably sit behind a desk somewhere and let all of us negligent truck drivers do all the dangerous stuff, such as deliver the concrete foundation that your house and office building sits on.

    • rob August 27, 2014 at 7:23 pm

i happen to see it happen, we had flooding last night and the corner was covered in mud the driver of the pumper tried to slow down when he saw a Pepsi truck get sideways he lost it on the mud and slid across and hit the white truck i was behind the pumper in my pickup doing 25mph and its a 45mph corner and i o-most got into the rear of the pumper side ways

    • laerdes August 27, 2014 at 10:32 pm

This guy comments on LITERALLY every story with an opinion or insult that riles people up. I think he’s a troll, A.K.A. someone putting on a persona on the internet to upset or cause tension with others. Let’s not feed his ego.

    • WOW... Think for a moment... August 27, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Bobber, with these comments you are worse than the driver of the pump truck – You are making these hurtful comments on purpose! The driver of the truck surely didn’t cause an accident on purpose, but he will still have to live with the consequences for the rest of his life. That is hard enough without mindless comments like yours. Comments like this don’t help others, they hurt others. Are you this disrespectful to everyone you come into contact with? I feel bad for you.

    • Duemas August 27, 2014 at 11:03 pm

Bobber your a …….* idiot! Get a life, a job and quit draining the welfare system. Troll!

    • Don August 28, 2014 at 7:37 am

Just FYI, i have known the driver of the cement truck for over 10 years. He does’t drink or do drugs. He is one of the most caring individuals I know. He is not new to driving these trucks. This has been his career for longer than I have known him. He is a very loving and devoted father with young kids at home. Knowing his personality, this accident was just that, an accident! I have never seen him do anything that would put other people in danger. I could see him sacrificing his own life for someone else if necessary! Those of you who see fit to judge him based on the outcome of the accident do not know him! This tragety will haunt him for the rest of his life! Before you judge, put yourself in his shoes and think about how you would feel if you had an accident that caused someone to lose their life. Bad things can happen that are beyond your control no matter how careful you are! Please don’t judge. Tomorrow you may be the one facing the terrible reality that through no fault of your own, you had an accident that cost someone their life. You never know what tomorrow holds in store for you.

  • california ( LA) August 27, 2014 at 11:34 am

I honestly can’t believe it. I’m in shock !!! I just got the oppurtunity to meet him 3 months ago at a weeding; (God wanted him home). He was a great humble man.

  • John Berrry August 27, 2014 at 11:46 am

Wow, judge and jury. Sounds like you know all the circumstances already. Yes, statistically there is a fairly high likelyhood that the driver was at fault on some level but there are quite a few reasonably possible circumstances where the driver had no fault. Maybe you should wait to hear a bit more before passing judgment.

  • Redrocks August 27, 2014 at 12:29 pm

There is a ton of mud and debris on that turn from the flood last night. Who knows if that caused the truck to lose control. The city probably should have closed the road las night until the mud and debris were removed.

  • zmac August 27, 2014 at 1:26 pm

What is it with the word “worthiness” everyone seems intent on placing blame…. This is a horrible accident that affects families and we should be extending our heartfelt sympathies to and offering our love and support for all involved. In my opinion it has nothing to do with “worthiness” so instead of constantly being negative about every little thing that happens, lets try to be mindful of those affected by these tragedies and hope we never have to deal with life altering events and the hurtful comments they always bring.

    • Brian August 27, 2014 at 5:16 pm

“Worthiness” is just one word that bobber uses to poke Mormon’s with a stick, because its the most intelligent thing he’s capable of. It has absolutely nothing to do with this accident or Mormon’s, and everything to do with bobber’s lack of character.

  • Opanke August 27, 2014 at 2:38 pm

I agree with you Bobber, I’m wondering if they took drug or alcohol test on the truck driver. Still can be done with the hair follicle test, drugs stay in your system along time These guys get their license ,and a one week later they think they’re hot shots. And people die. Speeding no doubt. $80 are completely off, dependent on who is related to. Just like the girl in Hurrican who murdered her baby by leaving it in the car, you don’t hear about that either.

    • Char August 27, 2014 at 4:18 pm

They just posted that she will not be charged………(put your own thoughts here, I know mine)

    • Just Saying August 27, 2014 at 5:19 pm

Opanke, Sounds like you are just mad because you received a DWI not long ago. Doesn’t mean everyone drives while intoxicated. I bet you and Bobber are dating!

    • Sick and Tired of Petty Heartless Comments August 27, 2014 at 5:22 pm

Opanke I hope you never ever make a devastating mistake in your life. Good luck on being perfect forever.

    • rob August 27, 2014 at 7:28 pm

it’s the fed law that d.a.a test are done no mater how small the accident is

    • Anonymous August 27, 2014 at 11:34 pm

i hate to correct you but your sentence should have been “These guys get their license and a week later they think they’re hot shots, or their license and one week later.” come on go back to school and learn how to form a correct sentence. 🙂

    • Linda August 28, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Opanke, you are such a … to say that the young woman murdered her baby. my God, accidents happen, who the … gave you the right to judge someone so harshly? Shame on you, A good man died today, and a good man will always feel responsible for it, weather it is his fault or not, I for one want to send my deepest sympathies and prayers to all the families. and I want to send a special prayer for you because if anyone needs some prayer, brother it is YOU!
      Ed. ellipses.

  • Char August 27, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Just a quick thought…..unable to make a turn and ‘drifts’ into oncoming traffic USUALLY means speeding………..

    • HUMMYNBYRD August 29, 2014 at 8:04 pm

The man that was driving behind the cement pump said they were going about 25, in a 45, not speeding. And probably slid sideways in all of that mud going around that curve. Happened to me in snow, no control at all.

  • Koolaid August 27, 2014 at 4:39 pm

Is the company worried more about the loss of life or the loss of a cement truck?

    • bobber August 27, 2014 at 5:11 pm

Well, an idiotic driver is cheap to replace. A new truck costs real money!

      • Koolaid August 28, 2014 at 5:08 pm

There was a time, pre OSHA (one of those hated government thingies) when companies did not take safety seriously. Workers were easier to replace than equipment. Sadly, a loss of life was an inconvenience.

      • Anna August 28, 2014 at 11:02 pm

As it turns out, you jerk, it was NOT the fault of the cement truck driver. The mud and debris on the road caused an unsafe condition. Cement trucks do not stop on a dime and their turning radius is terrible. Before you condemn someone or make judgements about them, walk a minute in their shoes, do their job under the same conditions, and if you can’t do it better, then shut up.

  • arrowone August 27, 2014 at 4:59 pm

I’m no prude. I’m not LDS. There are at least two individuals that should be banned from comments on this website. Every article is cheapened by these slobs. STG, please think about it…….No loss I’m sure.

    • Aliceyn August 28, 2014 at 5:47 am

I agree. JOYCE, please consider not publishing some of these hateful comments.

    • Rachel August 28, 2014 at 9:07 am

It wouldn’t matter, Arrowone. They would just assume a different persona and continue posting. Really, what STNews ought to do is the same thing that other news outlets do and make people register with real names or use their Facebook accounts. People are a lot less likely to throw stones or make offensive comments if their actual identity is known. Anonymity in comments has proven to breed purposeful contention, bigotry, and other hateful notions because there is no possible chance of culpability.

  • bobber August 27, 2014 at 5:13 pm

I seen all these idiots murder people on the road and get away with it. Whether they meant to do it or not they still murdered someone and should pay the price.

    • Judge and Jury August 27, 2014 at 5:51 pm

Hi, my name is “Bobber” and I have this unique ability. I can read an article or see a person and instantly know all the fact and what happened. Then, and only then, can I make a judgement. Once I have made a judgement, there is no longer any need for investigation. What I think is truly what happened, period!! We should stop wasting tax payer money on investigations because everyone is guilty and everyone should be put in prison for murder. I should run for office because I have all the answers, however, then I would have to come out from behind my computer and disclose my true identity. Because I am a big chicken and a coward, I choose to stay hidden in my mother’s basement and make my public judgments through the comment section on Stgnews. BTW- All mormons are quility!!!

    • John Berrry August 27, 2014 at 5:54 pm

Yup, just like Doctors often “murder” people in surgeries. Let’s throw them all in jail while we’re at it. How stupid can you get. And the lady “murdererd” her baby. Come on.

      mur·der

      1. the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

Even using the word murder in these types of accidents just shows how ignorant you are.

  • Dana August 27, 2014 at 6:15 pm

Bobber, your lobotomy is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Step away from the keyboard and get some sleep.

  • Bobber+aids=Koolaid August 27, 2014 at 6:36 pm

So one said Bobber and Koolaid are the same person But others have said that the two trolls live under the same bridge. Rumor is, it is so dark where they live the only time they see any light is when they fart.

  • Sadness August 27, 2014 at 7:00 pm

Someone died. Have some respect for their loved ones who may read these comments. That’s what this is about and nothing more.

    • bobber August 27, 2014 at 8:12 pm

they didn’t die. They were killed…by someone else’s careless actions

      • Duemas August 27, 2014 at 11:07 pm

Bobber do you have a drivers license? Have you even gotten your fat ass off out of your computer chair and seen sunlight lately?

      • Rachel August 28, 2014 at 12:00 pm

That’s right, Bobber. Killed. Not murdered. There is a difference. And the victim and the person at fault do not deserve your unjust censorship.

  • Phil August 27, 2014 at 7:16 pm

I went through this area about ten minutes before the reported time of the accident. Traveling east around the curve in front of the new st George shuttle location was extremely slick from flood debris. My truck did some drifting around the corner. Deceased is a friend of a friend. Great loss to his family and friends.

  • The Rest Of The Story August 27, 2014 at 8:55 pm

That curve is totally ridiculous anyway. The city needs to do eminent domain and reclaim it, then re-do that road with less of a curve, and perhaps locate one or two businesses on the opposite side of the road instead.

    • Panda August 28, 2014 at 10:01 am

I drive the curve everyday and there is nothing wrong with it as long as people obey the speed limit.

      • Anna August 28, 2014 at 11:04 pm

Really ? Do you do it in a multi-ton truck ? Do you do it in a multi-ton truck when the road is muddy and slick ? Doubtful.

  • angie August 27, 2014 at 9:28 pm

Yes please show some respect for our family member …God had his rode plan this morning and we do not need to read comments like these ..remember to say I love u to ur love ones because u don’t know if I will see them again. .

  • killjoy August 27, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Ok from what i read there is 1 guy dead and 2 injured. Any word on the injured men?
Also we do not know when our time to go is. ONLY Heavenly Father knows and when He calls we go no matter where we are or what we are doing. “Accidents” are 1 way of His calling us home.
Get over your nonsense “bobber” your judgemental attitude will come back to bite you HARD.

  • JJ August 27, 2014 at 10:25 pm

Deceased was a great family man who was genuine and caring towards everyone he met. He had a huge heart. His family greatly mourns his loss.

  • TheDude August 27, 2014 at 11:14 pm

I find it strange that a driver involved in a FATAIL accident. Was allowed to “self-drive” to the hospital.

  • Anonymous August 28, 2014 at 12:16 am

I just wanted to add my say on things here. I was there when this tragic accident happened and when you look at all the facts and everything the reason this happened was because the degree of the turn you need to make on red hills parkway is a bad turn and when the man in the cement truck hit that bend turn whatever you want to call is he hit it with a slick road that had layer of mud and his tail end whipped out on him and he tried to correct it ti gain control and again while sliding on the layer of mud and if you are a smart person the back end whipped around and momentum pushed the back end forward then (just so you know this part im unclear on) the truck hit some road that had no layer of mud and got some traction and hit the white pickup. So that’s what happened. So bottom line is that turn there on red hills parkway is a danger when wet or slick based on past accidents so this is just another terrible accident that was brought on by bad weather and a slick road. The driver of the pickup died from a accident it takes a horrible person to think otherwise. This is life accidents happen all we can do is help those who need it and be kind to each other and give prayers and support to the families affected by this accident. Last thing to remember when you point you finger at someone there are three pointing right back at yourself.

  • bobber and koolaid can suckit August 28, 2014 at 1:33 am

Fact: this area is prone to have dirt with high clay content making it very slick when it turns to mud. Another fact, it is negligence on the part of the driver if he/she is going to fast for road conditions, regardless of the posted speed LIMIT, and causes an accident. Sadly in this case, that accident was fatal and the driver will have to live with that regret along with whatever investigators determine and decide to charge. My heart goes out to those involved and their families. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone… Except bobber and koolaid.

  • mad truckdriver August 28, 2014 at 6:37 am

I agree my condolences to the family and friends of the man that was tradegically taken away from them to early. I am just glad to see that the huge majority of people out there have some common sense in that this was a major accident that took the life of a innocent man.

  • bobber August 28, 2014 at 9:31 am

if y’all had one of your own family killed you wouldn’t be spouting all this “oh forgive them it was just an accident” BS. Y’all would want some justice…

    • Robb Willie August 28, 2014 at 11:56 am

Hey Boobie. Justice from whom? It WAS an accident. I’m sure the truck driver feels plenty bad; lets ruin his life just to be sure. Geez, you’re a hateful bag of puke. BTW, people of faith, like–oh I don’t know–the Mormons you are always poking at, actually are pretty good most times, when it comes to forgiveness. Maybe you should try a little forgiving. You wouldn’t be nearly so miserable.

    • Duemas August 28, 2014 at 12:59 pm

Bobber do everyone a favor and go bob face down in a lake.

    • Anna August 28, 2014 at 11:07 pm

Try again. Many of us have lost family members and friends to accidents. Don’t you dare for one minute presume to know what we wanted or who we blamed. There isn’t always a bad guy, sometimes it’s just bad luck.

  • Anonymous4AReason August 28, 2014 at 1:21 pm

It is apparent that Bobber is a troll trying to stir up the emotions of the readers. No doubt to increase hits to the website. It is best to ignore the comments posted for this reason.

  • Koolaid August 28, 2014 at 5:11 pm

Respect for others’ loved ones. Hmmm… Think ‘Meadow Mountain Massacre’ for those who continue to want to commemorate John D. Lee with statues

  • that guy August 28, 2014 at 9:09 pm

@Bob&kool, I’m just wondering if you ever got a passing grade in school? What are you two about 12 yrs old? If your both adults and hate mormans so much why do you stick around? My guess is you two are one and the same. Just an ignorant 12 yr old son of a bishop who is acting out against his father by posting your stupid comments here. Just another reason why parents should remove coumputers from childrens rooms and monitor there use.

  • bobber August 29, 2014 at 11:34 am

FACT IS: You kill someone in a traffic collision that you caused then you should not get a walk. Maybe not a murder charge, but you should not get a walk. At least the survivors can get a barrel of cash out of this if they play their cards right.

    • TheDude August 30, 2014 at 7:54 am

You should definitely not leave police custody and “self-drive” to the hospital.

  • Bobber2 September 19, 2014 at 4:13 pm

The truck driver was going too fast for the road conditions. It is your responsibility to drive to the conditions. The poor man who lost his life was in the wrong place at the right time. If the driver was working then they should have to submit to a drug test. If someone lost a life then they should also be required to submit to a drug test.
