ST. GEORGE – Election season is in full swing in Washington County as the Republican primary polls have opened for voting. One of the most high profile contests is the race for county attorney. Incumbent, Brock Belnap, faces off against challenger, Nathan Caplin; there is no Democratic opponent so the winner of today’s primary will effectively decide the next county attorney.

St. George News caught up with Belnap as he cast his vote to find out how he was feeling as the race draws to an end.

For Caplin, the race isn’t over until polls close tonight. He plans to spend the day continuing to “knock on doors and talk to voters,” he said.

Caplin participated in early voting and was unavailable for the included videocast but he said he is grateful to all the parties involved in the county attorney race; the hard work of his campaign team, the various media outlets, the poll workers, and his family.

“All the hard work was worth it no matter how it turns out,” Caplin said, “because it has opened up conversation in Washington County to constitutional issues and let our voice be heard.”

When asked who he voted for Caplin said: “I voted for Republican candidate Nathan G. Caplin.”

According to poll workers at the Santa Clara City Library around 7:30 a.m., turnout had been good so far with a fairly consistent stream of voters though they hope for better turnout throughout the day.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m. To assist voters see:  Primary election voting guide for Washington, Iron counties

Our sign for Brock Belnap was deliberately taken down five times in the last week. Uncool of whoever was/is doing it.
