SAN JUAN COUNTY – San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the National Park Service recovered what they believe to be the body of Casey Menuey, 33, of Moab, Saturday morning. Menuey was reported missing June 6 after he became separated from a group on a Colorado River rafting trip.

Menuey was rafting with a group of seven people when they stopped at Lathrop Canyon, river mile marker 24, to explore a trail. It was in this area that Menuey became separated from his group.

Members of the group searched for Menuey for several hours before making contact with the National Park Service. Rangers arrived on the scene and were able to track Menuey back to the riverbank, which led investigators to believe he had entered the river. Menuey was not wearing a life preserver at the time of his disappearance, and it is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor, according to a press release from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety flew the area extensively in their search for Menuey, and the National Park Service conducted daily patrols of the river. At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, a body was finally recovered near river mile marker 15, near the mouth of Monument Basin.

The body is being transported to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City for identification and examination.

You guys are sick they way you write about Casey. His family has to read every word you write. His children and family don’t need you to emphasize these parts of this tragic incident!
