ST. GEORGE — A vehicle fire threatened a family’s home after a van, parked close to the backyard patio, caught fire late afternoon Wednesday.
At approximately 3:10 p.m. members of the St. George Fire Department arrived at 1355 W. 450 N. to find a van on fire parked close to the backyard patio’s awning, St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker said. Firefighters had the fire extinguished within about 15 minutes.
The heat pushed up underneath the awning and slightly damaged the structure. There were a few incidental items that were also damaged, but the van is pretty much totaled, Stoker said.
“We’re not sure what caused the fire yet,” Stoker said. “It looks like the fire started in the back of the van.”
There were occupants in the home but they were evacuated. No one was injured during the incident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by responders on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

The methhead that occupies the van took off while the police and fire crew were there. Once they all left, he came “home” to find his meth pipe was lost in the blaze. Sad day. Thankfully the children that live there weren’t harmed.
nope, just so happens that my friend lives right behind this house. As a matter of fact this could have been a lot worse. The entire rear of this home including the yard right behind it is fuel for a fire. No meth was involved! The young boy who lives there was playing with matches. He caught some cotton on fire then the van. I hope he learned his lesson. I did the same thing when I was young as well.
