Hard Freeze Warning statewide, Utah’s Dixie excepted

SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service has issued a “Hard Freeze Warning” in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday for all valleys and basins outside of extreme Southern Utah and Dixie.

Affected areas

Cache Valley – Utah portion, northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake and Tooele valleys, southern Wasatch front, Great Salt Lake desert and mountains, western Uinta basin, Castle Country, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete/Sevier valleys, west central utah, southwest Utah, including the cities of Logan, Smithfield, Brigham City, Ogden, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Tooele, Lehi, Provo, Nephi, Wendover, Snowville, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Price, Castledale, Emery, Green River, Hanksville, Manti, Richfield, Delta, Fillmore, Beaver, Cedar City, and Milford.

Temperatures

Temperatures will drop as low as 28 degrees.

Wasatch Front urban areas that are generally east of Interstate 15 will remain in the low-to-mid 30s but some frost is expected.

Timing

The coldest temperatures are expected early Tuesday morning.

Impacts

Crops and early gardens will be susceptible to a hard freeze early Tuesday morning. Take precautions to prevent damage, including covering gardens and bringing in any potted plants.

Precautionary, preparedness actions

A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

    “Utah’s Dixie Excepted”… (what) What did Utah’s Dixie except? It’s always nice to be able accept something, especially money. A better word might have been “excluded” or “not including”. The word “excepted” implies something is being given. Well… in this case, Dixie was give a reprieve from a sub-freeze….maybe.
