UPDATE: The Provo Police Department has canceled this alert. See story here: Amber Alert for Pablo Rivera canceled
UTAH – An Amber Alert has been issued for 13-year-old Pablo Rivera, reported as being abducted from his home in Provo, Friday night, by his noncustodial father, Juan Rivera Casillas, 42. The boy is believed to be traveling with his father and grandfather in a white 4-door Chevrolet sedan, and may be in California headed toward the San Ysidro, Mexico, border.
Anyone with information on this matter is asked to call the Provo Police Department: Telephone 801-852-6210 | Or call 911
Friday at 9:16 p.m. Provo Police Department’s dispatch received a call from Pablo Rivera’s mother, Maria Hernandez, Provo Police Lt. Matt Siufanua said. The mother had returned home at 8 p.m. after being away at an activity all day, assuming her son was home, he said, but when she got home she discovered her son missing.
“She looked around and found a note from Pablo saying that he was going to live with his father in Guadalajara, Mexico,” Siufanua said. “The father has no custody rights, and the reason they moved up here (Provo) was because he was abusive.”
Siufanua said that Juan Rivera Casillas did this about five years ago when he took his and Maria Hernandez’s daughter. The mother has not seen her daughter since. No charges were filed at that time because there was no custody arrangement with the courts yet, he said, so they couldn’t file the daughter’s abduction as a kidnapping.
“We tried to ping the phone last night, at 10 p.m. and we actually pinged it at Barstow, Calif.,” Siufanua said. “We know they’re traveling south, probably on I-15, they’re probably going to go through the San Ysidro border. We’ve been in contact with the Border Patrol and the (California Highway Patrol) putting out Amber Alerts.”
According to the Amber Alert Web page posted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, after the child’s cellphone was pinged at 10:32 p.m. Friday near the “Barstow Freeway” in California, the cellphone is now turned off.
