WASHINGTON CITY – A teenage boy has been identified by police as possibly being connected to a recent animal cruelty incident in Washington that left a cat impaled with an arrow

Last week a stray cat was taken to the Washington Family Veterinary Clinic after being found with an arrow shot though its face and out one of its shoulder blades. The cat, named Quiver by veterinary staff, survived the incident and is making good recovery. The arrow missed the brain and other vital parts of the feline’s anatomy.

The teenage suspect was found by Washington City Police based on information provided by the public, said Ed Kantor, Washington City Police spokesman.

“Through follow up investigation relating to the information officers were  able to identify and locate a male juvenile who allegedly injured a cat by shooting it with a bow and arrow,” Kantor said in a statement released Thursday.

In the days following news of the incident, cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible mounted to over $9,000. The reward was offered by the Humane Society of Utah and other animal rescue/advocacy groups.

The case has been forwarded to the juvenile courts for review and the possible filing of charges. As the case involves a juvenile, the suspect’s name is not being released by police.

Juveniles arrested are presumed innocent until adjudicated otherwise in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

    • JOSH DALTON February 13, 2014 at 12:38 pm

He is going to jail….he might get something other than a arrow stuck in him!

    • Festus February 13, 2014 at 12:44 pm

      Anger issues huh Chuck… WOW!

  • Bub February 13, 2014 at 12:03 pm

It’s good to see that folks are concerned about the plight of this poor old cat. I hope to see animal rights start to advance more in this country. I know that right-wingers don’t feel this same way since “The Lord” told them it was ok to use and abuse animals in any way they like. I think this is progress though, especially in Utah of all places.

    • anna thomas February 13, 2014 at 1:20 pm

Bob, what the heck are you talking about? What “right-winger” said that “the Lord” told them it was okay to abuse animals? I don’t know of any person right or left winged that thinks its okay to shoot a cat in the face with an arrow. But maybe that is because I don’t spend time around deranged people.

    • J February 13, 2014 at 1:48 pm

Where did you come up with that BS Bub? I am a hunter as well as animal lover and what this kid did was sick. Pretty much any one would agree no matter who you are. You never kill/shoot an animal for no reason and leave it to waste.

    • Bub February 13, 2014 at 2:14 pm

The old testament has always been used to justify evil and immoral behavior. Most animal cruelty goes unseen and unnoticed, so it’s not something most people even think about. Wildlife and domestic animals are victimized all the time and it’s either just purely evil behavior or Justified by what some god said in an old hebrew book. Take your pick I guess. I’m fully aware it’s a more complex problem with no simple solutions.

        Genesis 1:28

“And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

        Just to name one

      • Scripture February 13, 2014 at 4:15 pm

I think it’s Leviticus 4:35 and Genesis 8.20-21 where it’s mentioned the requirement of slaughtering animals for one’s sins.

    • Steve February 13, 2014 at 4:35 pm

You have some issues Bub. You seem to post comments on every story and somehow blame conservatives, tea party, right wingers for everything. I swear, there could be a story on Girl Scout cookie sales and you would write about how the tea party would find a way to take their money. Give us a break already. We get the hint, this is Bubs world and we just live in it. Lol.

      • Bub February 14, 2014 at 10:54 am

LOL you’re right Steve. In a perfect world there would be a cure for stupidity, but in the real world the best I can do is find the humor and irony in it. 😀

  • Craig February 13, 2014 at 12:20 pm

This is how most serial killers started….by injuring and/or killing animals. If this is the person responsible, I hope his parents get him the help he needs. Right after he gets a swift kick in his butt.

  • JOSH DALTON February 13, 2014 at 12:44 pm

just like I said to Chuck. I don’t thnk he going to get a swift kick in the butt its going to be something else. It might not be swift.

    In response to Bub’s comment:

I am what most would consider a “right-winger”. However, I do not condone the cruel treatment of any animal. And I certainly don’t use God as an excuse for such repulsive behavior. While my beliefs dictate that, yes, God has given us dominion over the Earth, my beliefs also dictate that part of that responsibility is to treat all animals and people with dignity, love, and respect. If you are a hunter, hunt the things that are meant to be hunted and use them as food, clothing etc… But the moment one kills or hurts something for fun, sport or out of hatred, that is the moment the line has been crossed. I was so angry when I heard of this terrible act and I still am. I hope and pray that this young person learns a very valuable lesson, and that he is held responsible to the highest degree allowed by law. Equally important, I hope this beautiful animal makes a full recovery and lives to see happier, easier times with a loving family. Yes…Yes…We “right-wingers” love animals too! 🙂

    • Bub February 13, 2014 at 2:20 pm

I’m glad you feel this way and can feel empathy towards animals. Unfortunately there’s many people who cannot/will not.

  • debbie February 13, 2014 at 1:54 pm

ps. just remember when we are busy threatening people.. we are no better than they are if we do that.. just because you stick up for animals doesn’t make you dignified and worthy to threaten humans.. it makes you wishy washy about all creatures if you fancy harming one for any reason.. either you believe in humaneness or you don’t.. period.

  • Brandy February 13, 2014 at 2:59 pm

Yes, FESTUS, anger issues towards this for me to. Any human being that can do that is sick. Maybe they need it done to them to see how it feels!!!!

    • Steve D February 13, 2014 at 4:30 pm

Growing up, I knew a lot of kids who did things like this, they didn’t turn out too bad, actually now they arrest kids who do things like this.

      • joan February 14, 2014 at 1:18 am

Steve, they didn’t turn ut too bad? They are sick SOBs for doing something like this to start. WHat normal kid would maim an animal for fun? Oh wait, one who grew up in the hunting culture of Southern Utah. So glad I am out of that state!

  • Lonni February 13, 2014 at 4:04 pm

Bub, do you realize that most of the “Right Wingers” around here revere and follow a prophet, Joseph Smith, who would not permit even the killing of a nest of rattlesnakes? He insisted that they be picked up with sticks and humanely moved to another spot. Another man regarded as a prophet although of lesser rank than Smith, Elder George Q. Cannon, saw a horse being beaten by a man and pronounced, as a prophet and mouthpiece of the Lord, that in the next life that horse would demand justice of that man, and that he would receive it. “Don’t Shoot the Little Birds” is a children’s song taught in Primary.

If you think that you’re seeing “Right Wingers” abuse animals, you’re seeing weak, twisted people doing what they do, and it has nothing to do with political beliefs. And just for the record, Michael Vick is a Democrat.

    • joan February 14, 2014 at 1:22 am

Lonni, please. In Cedar City, I had to yell at kids who were in my back yard hunting jack rabbits with bb guns! The same kids who went to the stake house almost every day of the week. Guess they didn’t hear the rattlesnake story, yet! Hunting, for sport, not necessity, is the number one recreational sport in your state. It is akin to animal abuse!

      • Joe February 14, 2014 at 9:58 am

Joan, I’m guessing you enjoy the food you eat like corn and other vegetables. As farmers certain animals like Deer, Rabbits and Gophers ruin our crops. I’m not for abuse to animals, but there has to be control for some of these animals or you would not be able to enjoy going to the grocery store to get food. It would make the prices higher on food than they already are if these animals were even more populated.

    • Illegal February 14, 2014 at 10:22 am

However, Joe Smith did shoot and murder an innocent man. He was also reputed to have sex with young girls and other men’s wives. And who can forget those murderers at Meadow Mountains who bashed in the heads of defenseless women and children?

    • Bub February 14, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Lonni, I don’t think I brought up Smith?. There’s a lot of things about the LDS lifestyle to be respected. And I’m hopeful this juvenile delinquent brat learns a lesson. St Geoge isn’t the little redneck town it was 20 yrs ago when torturing cats probably would have been overlooked, and I’m glad.

  • Steve D February 13, 2014 at 4:27 pm

Quiver the cat? too soon and awesome Mr. Kessler.

  • Jay-rad February 13, 2014 at 5:21 pm

Debbie has got it right. I think most people today are opposed to the abuse of animals (though their opinions on the issues worthy of adjudication vary)—but regardless of where you line up, if you advocate extreme violence toward perpetrators of crimes like this, it comes across as hypocrisy. IMHO (In my humble opinion).

  • Diane Webster February 13, 2014 at 8:10 pm

I hope he is found and locked up. Better yet let me punish him and his lame parents who didn’t raise him right.
